**This download might need to be refreshed once or twice before it works. If you get 503 server error, try again, if it doesn't work after a while use the links below.
1: Download the file and rename/save it as update.zip (some users found just plain update works best (no .zip))
2: Place the file on your mini SD card and insert it into your G1 (card formatting requirements still unknown, so if fat does not work, try fat32 and vice versa)
3: With the phone off Hold down the "Home" and press the power button (end call) to turn the phone on (while still holding the home button)
3: Wait for the following screen
4: open your keyboard and press Alt+L
5: When you see yellow text, pless Alt+S
6: When it says "Installation Complete" you can press "Home" + "Back" to reboot.
7: Wait for your phone to completely reboot and allow it to finish writing your radio rom during reboot, it may reboot multiple times.
8: Enjoy
These instructions are paraphrased from other users and are not written by me.
Hope this works for everyone...

Have you tried it? And this is to RC28, correct? Not RC29?
So far, i'm to the yellow text. Looking good!
Btw, I downloaded from this link, so it was already named right. I also put it in the main folder of the SD card. It's rebooting now, so i'll report back.
when you you turn your phone off did you turn it back on with the home button held down? you must hold the home button down until you enter the install screen

Yeah, i got to the install screen. Pretty cool. But the install failed. I'll try it again and see if i can write down an error.
it will restart and have a chip-set pictures, then reset again....and then possibly again. i dont remember how many times....but then it will finally start android again.

forgive me for my ignorance in advance. I am wondering since the first link isn't working for me, if I do this rapid share thing do I need to download all those links? and how safe is this to do? I am still not updated and i'd like to be and for the first time I am not able to get through to t-mobile, I always thought their customer service was 24 hours but um ok. I am happy to see it worked for some of you guys and i'd like to take a chance and do a manual update as well i'm just a lil chicken to click the link and start the download.

geez, that was a breeze. i hesitated about renaming the file at first...unsure if android would recognize a .zip file, but wow. This phone continues to amaze me.

Just one I believe. Those are just multiple links to the same thing if I'm not mistaken.
I keep getting an error message screen is as follows:
installing from sdcard...
finding update package...
E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or subdirectory)
E: can't mound SDCARD:update.zip
installation aborted
i have tried renaming it: update, UPDATE, update.zip, Update.zip and none of them have worked. Could anyone help me?
