So I've been on this phone pretty much non-stop since it was delivered (posting from it right now) and I've used every feature on it; GPS, wifi, EDGE (no 3G here) and played quite a few games that use those functions.
Needless to say, I can put the battery to <15% from 100% in 3-5 hours, and I was wondering which of the features was the most energy intensive?
GPS is the real killer (I once drove for about 4 hours with my HTC Advantage ON CHARGE in the car using GPS and the battery died before I reached my destination).
3G does its best too :-)

When using GPS when driving you pretty much have to have it on a car charger, but thats pretty easy to do. My phones have always been on the car charger when driving.

Yeah what HTC said... I don't think I have ever heard that one before.... How is that possible I could see not charging any further but the battery drain would have to be huge even more so with this phone because of the rate it charges....

holup......it dies while it was hooked up to the charger inside the car? Now that sucks to death!

ok so i have tested all of these, the one that kills the battery the fastest is the auto sync feature, if you turn off wifi,bluetooth,gps,3g, all the auto sync features, location, you can get more then a days use of intense mp3,web,text,im,etc, but again as for your question, the auto sync i noticed drains mine in 3-4 hours comaped to a day with the rest off.

well that sucks because auto-sync is what I need the most. I turned autosync off on my contacts but left it on for calendars and email. I may turn calendars off.
I can live without 3g, wifi and bluetooth...but the autosync I need the most

I get a full day with autosync on and moderate use if I use 2G only. My battery has definately improved after a dozen charge cycles.
The color screen is also a battery drain. It's a small tip, but I always press the red hangup button to turn off the screen when I'm finished w/ my current use of the phone.
If you really want to maximize battery life, disable all data connections if you are not going to use the internet for a while. It is in "phone settings". I did this in Europe last week so that I would be sure and not incur any data roaming charges. My phone was on 80% capacity after an entire day that include several phone calls and many text msgs. You are turning a smart phone into a dumb one by doing this, but if it is going to sit in your pocket for several hours, why drain the battery?
Your phone can't die while charging. It's impossible. Wanna convince yourself? Do this: plugin charger, remove battery while charge plugged in - rejoice as your phone continues to be on.
