Default G1 with AT&T (two cases)

to start off, i have read all of the other g1 to at&t cases in this forum. i am anticipated to buy a HTC G1 off of somebody for $70 which i think is a great deal, even better if my brother, or even me can use it, of course. i'm an at&t carrier, with iphone on the $15 a month data plan. my brother, however, uses an unlocked tmobile blackberry with no problem at all. he does not have a data plan. he only uses solely for sms and calls, not even mms. i do not know the way to go about using g1 at all. we also do not want to deal with at&t and their auto detection of data plans and automatically assign it to the sim card. i also know that g1 needs some data required to change apn settings in order to cease all data connections. with that said would someone take me through a step by step process (of course i have to unlock the g1, i plan to buy it off of ebay later when i do have the g1 (imei) is needed). i'm also satisfied with my iphone, so i'm leaning toward my brother using the g1 without any data plan. thanks in advance!
