Default urgent help needed

guys i have got an update for tmobile g2 touch (htc hero) and couldnt install as it showed some error..

with the help of the forum on tmobile website, it shows we have to update the ROM from their website and install the updates (OTA).
since am using the phone which is unlocked, my doubt is whether i can update the ROM and install the android 2.1 update(OTA).

suppose if i install the ROM from the website , will the phone become locked to tmobile
and i will be not able to use it and have to unlock again.

kindly help me reg this.

No you will be fine. The network lock will not come back. You will loose root though if you have it.

Yes, that's the latest. You're ready for the big 2.1 update when it arrives.

Is yours German by any chance? Mine's UK and shows the build as 2.73.110.91

Well, as things stand today (Monday) I've still not got anything from T-Mobile for my G2 Touch, so I'm assuming that officially nothing has yet been pushed out regarding OTA updates.

You phone should check for updates every 2 weeks or so. Next time it checks it should pick up the 2.73.110.91 update. You can prompt it to check by rolling the date forward.

Crikey. Having done a few date changes over the past few weeks without anything happening, I wasn't expecting this to work but - hey presto - it is!

It's a very slow download for what is only a 3.6Mb file but at least part 1 of the OTA update is now downloading. I dread to think how long the second part (80mb?) is going to take when that's released in a few weeks time!

UPDATE: That's weird. The download got to 68% and then vanished!? What's happened to it?

Just put the date forward like 3 week, and it said there was a update available for my phone. Downloaded VERY quickly ( could be that I'm connected to my WiFi ) and is done in under a minute.

Hoping It works fine when the OTA proper update comes out. If not I'm going to have to take my phone into the shop

It should download, then come up and ask to restart or something, it should then start up and come up with a different screen for a while, before restarting again normally.

Well, it stopped downloading at 68% and then just disappeared off my notifications and I couldn't see how to kickstart it off again. I had no idea where it was downloading the file to or why it suddenly stopped, so I set the date back to today then set it again forwards by two weeks (with a power -off inbetween). A box then popped up and asked me if I wanted to 'update' the phone. I guess it must have still been completing the download, even though I had nothing on screen to confirm it. Anyway, of course I said yes, and got to see a screen showing a white box with an arrow and a phone handset, complete with a progress bar. A minute or so later it then rebooted the handset.

Slightly worrylingly it ended up stuck on a T-Mobile screen during rebooting the handset for about two mins, before finishing. The phone is now reporting itself as a 2.73.110.91 build, but otherwise I can't see anything any different from how it all looked and behaved before. I've seen some people mention something about 'YouTube' but that app on my phone looks the same as I remember it before?!

So, I guess that's part 1 done and dusted?

Weird. Yea that's what happened with mine. I was also slightly worried when it was taking a while on that screen, i let out a phew when it loaded up though. Lol.

So yea, that's the pre-update done. Full update should be in a few week hopefully

There is one obvious change in the new build.

In 'Setting's, you can now go to 'About Phone' and select 'System software updates' and the option is now 'Scheduled check' along with a button to 'Check now'.
