Thumbs up 3000mAh Battery for G2 (HTC Hero)

Just thought I'd inform all G2Touch and HTC Hero users of a decent battery
I've just bought for my T-Mobile U.K. G2 Touch.

Had my phone running since 7.30am and it's about 3.20pm now and only have had a drop of 10% in battery power so far.

Very impressed.

The battery due to it's size has it's own back cover for the phone, which adds an extra 5mm to the depth of the phone. Not really an issue in my case to be honest.

If you hate having to charge your phone constantly look up "3000mAh battery for HTC Hero" on google. I picked mine up for a cheap £17 (inc postage).

Or look at OddsAndPods.co.uk-Mobile-HTC & XDA Phone Accessories-Batteries-HTC Hero Extended 3000mAh Battery and Replacement Back Cover If your a UK resident which is where I bought mine.

Looks Good , I was going to get an extended battery for my Magic but Was concerned about the battery bulging etc.

If However I had a Hero , I would be happy with this. 5mm is nothing much

Yeah I feel a fat Hero is better than a useless Hero at times of need. LOL!

Only had the phone about a week and it was driving me nuts.

The battery life was worse than my old Samsung Omnia's original battery. But as I got an extended battery for my Omnia and it didn't cause me issues, I thought sod it and gave it a go with the Hero.

I have to say I'm really impressed with the life now, and I'm really starting to love this phone. Shame HTC doesn't design the phone around the battery. It might be a little bulky but I'm satisfied now.

It seems to be lasting longer than my Omnia when I gave it a larger battery too. I'd say buy one, dunno what the battery looks like for the Magic but as long as you can still carry it in your pocket and it's not like lugging a car battery around with you, who cares?

What colour of Hero do you have?
Your link to the extended battery shows a white Hero and a dark-coloured back.
There's no mention of back colour on the website.
I'm after an extended battery with a brown back.

Default Great Hero battery

I bought one of these batteries also. Took 2 days to arrive and I am very pleased with it. Id reccomend the oddsandpods.co.uk site if you need a new Hero battery. Thanks for pointing the site out. this was my 1st order with them but I will definately shop with them again.]

Very happy

Yeah Black. Which is the G2 colour. Suppose it would look OK on a brown HTC Hero. Unfortunately I've not seen any other colours except white from another site. So I'm guessing so far that's your limit. Still, wouldn't matter if you were colour blind. LOL.

Default Sounds interesting

Hi, Plymouthbiker, thanks for taking the leap and trying that battery out.

It seems incredibly cheap. Mugen also do a 3000mah battery, but it's twice the price. Could you keep us posted on how well the battery works?

And - do you have a link to the site where you saw that battery in white?

Another question -- does the back cover have the same "feel" as the plastic on the front of the phone?

Had mine a few days, ordered on Friday arrived Tuesday. so nice fast service actually had about 70% battery already on it so you don't need to recharge straight away.

you get a lot more life out of the battery than the original, easily lasts a day with power to spare. had it playing podcast for about 4-5 hours, with phone and wifi on whilst working on the underground so it would have been constantly try to pull a signal and it hardly made an impact. normal battery would have been crying for the charger by the time i got home. This had plenty power still.

Theres a cool free app in the market called battery graph, its shows you a graph of your battery power usage against the time of day so you can work out when you had the most drain. very handy. Also you can work out how long it takes for a battery to charge.

The Backplate feels very similar to the back of the original, the slight bump isn't off putting and doesn't add that much weight, its just not gonna be as slimline as the original was in your pocket.

enclosing, don't wait get it now, you wont regret it.

Yesterday I ordered a few "back cover" replacements for my Hero for around £4 just because I like to have the entire thing looking neat without any scratches or stains.

However I would like an extended battery life. Has anyone tried to use the 3000mAh battery with the original back cover (that came with the battery in the phone)? I only ask because I don't want the replacements I just purchased to become null once I get an extended battery

An extended battery to be "extended" has to be physically bigger to increase the amount of current that can be drawn and therefore last longer...in most cases they are thicker than the original so to answer your query the original back cover will not fit if you have the extended battery fitted.

Extended batteries for the hero will usually come with a slightly bigger back case, but its not too bad. The benefits easily outweigh the slight size increase.

Hey, I have a Sprint HTC Hero, which is different than the Hero that was shown at the first link in this post, are there are replacement back covers for the Sprint HTC Hero?

Also, do any of you guys use cases? Do they sell fatter cases, if you have a bigger phone?

The case issue was on my mind too...

I've got a nice leather flip type case to keep my Hero protected. It
is the type that has two plastic clips on the side and one on the top
to secure the handset in place. Obviously a thicker phone won't fit in
these clips. Doh!

Any ideas for good cases for the thicker phone?

Still doing fine. No problems. Well happy! Er I will look for the other battery. Think it was 3200mah, but will look. I know it did cost considerably more.

As the sprint hero is not sold in the UK, I'm not aware of it. So it would be an issue. Try and google "+sprint hero extended battery 3000mAh / 3200mAh" see if that comes up with anything. Obviously UK hero and Sprint hero are totally different shapes. But I'm also wondering if they share the same battery or not? Can anyone clarify the battery number for an official sprint and u.k. hero?

The only issue then would to be getting a clever person to professionally alter the case to fit it or get an engineer to blow-mould a different back plate for it . Could be a good opportunity for someone who wanted to take it on.
