Default Why Are You Going from G1 to G2 ?

For those of you ditching your old G1 for the New G2, I'm just curious as to exactly why? I realize it has a lot of new features and fixes, just wondering SPECIFICALLY which ones YOU were motivated by to make the change.

Being that it's in the $400 price range, I'm personally quite content to stay with the G1 until I can find a used G2 for around $150 or less next year or so (It doesn't take long in this industry for the latest and greatest new phone to be outdated).

Its a lot faster, larger screen, good keyboard, stock android, once rooted it is as open as the G1. My G1 was on its last legs. And I like phones with keyboards. I still keep my G1 around and charged really liked that phone.

Yeah. I like the G2 and will probably get one "eventually" after the price craze is over...when they're under $200 I can hold out till then. I don't like the way the restrictions have been placed on the OS since Froyo. Can you get around "Alll" of those by rooting? I'm big into Linux so root and all that is very familiar to me.

The G1 is plenty fast enough for me right now....I use it a lot for remote video surveillance and it spanks....so I'm happy.

G1 has some issues...Can't delete emails from OEM client. Camera has no flash plus, bad memory limitations, can't store and run programs from SD card plus a few more But it does ok oterwise.

Specifically....

I use Tasker to auto shut down a video surveillance program after 60 seconds so I don't accidentally leave it running. (Which I had already done several times by mistake and TONS of bandwidth was used while the phone was in my carrying case, not to mention battery drain).
Tasker now takes care of this for me perfectly.

This is extremely important to me.

From what I've gathered, Tasker can no longer shut down apps automatically because since Froyo, changes were made to the OS preventing 3rd party apps from shutting down other apps for security reasons.

If there's an update to this story, I missed it.

Not exactly sure what that means but it seems the G2 has already played out. Nor was it the end-all many had hoped for.

Not sure. Just what I gather from the reviews and comments I've read.

main reason why i switched over to a g2 was because it was the latest and greatest t-mo had (i like to have the newest one if possible and money allows it)
but i love my g2

honestly, I was able to deal with the slowness with the G1, but what made me switch was the stupid battery. my G1 lasted about 4-5 hours....., and that was with limited activity
with the g2 I can go a little over 24 hours of use, and I don't have to watch how I use it, I go on facebook, text, and check email whenever I want

The T-Mobile G2 came as the successor to the G1, the worlds very first Android phone. The G Series has come a long way since then, but has retained one major element: a stock Android experience that forgoes any manufacturer customizations to the us... Read More
