Unhappy T-Mo G2 on black screen of death, help?!

My buddies TMo G2 is stuck while trying to power on, simply an unresponsive black screen. He has done no rooting of any kind as well. After a while the volume keys will work (chime up in vol and down to vib), keyboard lights up, and Home/Menu/Back/Search light up as well. The screen is totally unresponsive though. I have tried removing the battery and repower with the left volume key depressed and nothing, still black. Same with the SIM and the SD removed. When I hooked it up to the PC it recognized the drive but under properties for the storage it states nothing (as in 0), and even if I insert my SD card that has viewable files in his phone, gone. Oh yah, the option to turn on USB storage obviously doesnt come up on his phone as well when connected to the PC. Newbie here, take it easy, but I am technically savy being an engineer, just mechanical though Thanks in advance for any help or prayers for my buddies brick.

Bad or disconnected ribbon cable. Check the cable behind the screen. If something got in there if could have dissconected it. Do the captive touch buttons work?
You guys got somethin' to say to me? Why don't you say it in the microphone. I got a backup mike right here. Check one two, testing, testing. Yup, they both workin' and guess what? They don't like no feedback, what's up?
