Notsure Let Down..

I purchased my G2X through Radioshack about a week after the phones release and I can honestly say that i am very dissapointed. I sent the first g2x that i recieved back, due to the common problems EVERYONE else with a g2x is experiencing. Now i am on g2x number 2 and i am slowly but surely finding little things that arent right.. AGAIN..
Im not sure what happens next. what happens if tmobile cannot get this phone figured out? are all of the people dealing with this dual processor fail supposed to just be okay with wasting 200 dollars? or are we going to be compensated in some way?

last but not least has this ever happened before with another phones release? if so what happened then?

I definately get it. I love mine. I'm waiting for my third one to come. I'm thinking about all the work getting everything the same again. For the third time. For me, it's worse, because I'm coming off three months of torture first with the Indulge then with Sprint. I just want good service on a device that works. period.
I've been a big cheerleader of this phone, but my issues ARE getting old. I'm sick of messing with it.

But you know what? This phone is worth it IMO. Just ask anyone who has one that's perfect. And they are out there. My daughter has one. I may have to take hers, but that is a different thread.

I've given this a lot of thought. The contract is signed so I'm stuck with T Mobile. I really am very happy with them. The Sensation looks awesome. but....Too big, not rootable, and another unknown stability wise. So that's out. I hate Samsung. Lousy support.

So the G2X is my choice. I initially was of the mind that if I get another buggy one, three strikes you're out. After thinking about it, I'll go to a fourth if necessary.
Look around, virtually everyone who has issues say they are on their third or fourth. That says two things....Customer support IS supporting this phone. And that once people have had it they want to keep it.

When mine is acting right, it is unbelievable!

Not everyone is having the problems. I'm sorry you are. It might make things easier to solve if EVERYONE was actaully having the issues. Doesn't make sense why some people would have continuous problems and other's phones work fine.

Clearly people are having problems, otherwise we wouldn't be getting these threads and T-Mobile wouldn't be saying "there are known issues, please don't replace the headsets, because it'll be fixed with a software update."

Random reboots. Random shut downs. GPS only working at times.

I'm waiting for the software update, if it doesn't fix it, I'm eBaying it. No point in keeping something that I can't even use as a reliable alarm clock.

The only thing that sucks for me is, I've had stock (or as close to stock as you can get) since day one of Android. Unfortunately there's nothing that's close to stock until the new Nexus comes out around Christmas.

I am using my replacement 1st replacement. And really been a decent phone... Every once in awhile my screen will go blank when in a phone call and I cannot get it to wake up like in a voice mail hell trying to find the right division... and sometimes ill set it down face down and a random restart might happen. they are rare but it does happen. I have excellent call quality and it will down shift quickly to a non 4g connection if its weak. Fits nice in my pocket, screen res rocks as well. Serious im thinking this is software buggage and not the phone itself. I have not heard complaints here about rooted phones have problems though.... any thoughts?

I never said there weren't problems. The OP said EVERYONE is having problems, which is not true.

If everyone were having problems it would probably make the issue easier to find and take care of, or better yet, the problem would have got solved before the release date.

Well then, out of curiosity, I'd like to know how / how much you use your phone?

Do you just use it for a few texts and phone calls or do you play around with it, use the GPS, download apps, listen to music and watch flash videos?

Because I have a hard time believing that some people go through a number of these phones while others have not noticed any issues with them.

Sorry if I sound like a jackass, I just would like to know. It just boggles my mind.

I did all the above with my phone, and I had no issues with Reboots, Shutdowns, nor GPS, in the (2) weeks that I had it. Poor reception (design flaw or hardware choice most likely culprit) was my only reason for return.

Now "download apps" may be a reason why some people have issues where others don't. Given the amount of updates being deployed, the lack of a vetting process, and many apps being created by "some guy", its very possible that a poorly coded app(s) is hampering system functionality. "Some people just download/install any old app", and expect it to be "issue free".

Besides typical email, texts, phone, web browsing and google navigation for my work... I use Audible and Doggcatcher heavily, hours a day. Also lots of Pandora and now Google Music Beta.

Not much flash, but some youtube videos, movies from my SD and HBOgo.

Really light on games, just Angry Birds and Words With Friends.

I probably use the phone 12 hours a day. I assure you if I had the problems I read about this phone woyld be going back. But it has been very solid. Better than my G1 was or my iPad or my laptop are now. Hell, it more solid than the Blackberry my boss makes me carry.

Heres the thing any new phone is going to have problems some more than others, but there will be bugs that are discovered and manufacture defects that arise. Thats kind of the price that you pay for being on the cutting edge of early adoption. If you dont believe me look at the nexus one threads, the mytouch 4g, and Evo all had similar issues within its first 2 months.

All the owners of those phones created thread after thread of complaints and issues and after the first ota patch or 2 alot of the issues were settled. For gods sakes the Evo had a spot on the corner edge were u could practically wedge a pinky in between the screen and the phone, and its now hailed as the best phone on sprint.

The nexus one had a plethora of issues ranging from 3g signal, wifi, bluetooth and i could go on and on, but the point being that most were eventually fixed to the point were the nexus developed a hardcore following(had it not been for the tiny app memory i would still be using my sexy nexus). I say this all to say be patient yes it sucks that we have these issues but no phone is perfect, and i know that once the first ota patch is released and we get upgraded to gingerbread(which is rumored to happen next week) your going to have people defending this phone to the end.

I have an issue with all the threads started by people like you with no issues dogging the people that do.
When my phone is rebooting or hanging up on my calls, it is not functional period. So spew that crap somewhere else.
The people withy these rebooting issues, wifi not working, and hangips paid for a working phone. They did not get what they paid for. My issues were neither trivial, or imagined, and those of us experiencing them are not cry babies as you and others inply.
I'm really sick of the smug remarks. I've had real issues. I have not over reacted at all. I just want what I paid for.
I would not have been able to wait for the update on that last phone, my 2nd. It was not what I would call functional...period.

Knock on wood, the one I got yesterday seems perfect. But, it's my third one. And not only that, but it came in an unmarked box. So now I get to keep the original box with numbers that don't match. Would you be happy about that defiantbeast? I seem to finally have a working phone, but don't have a matching box...affecting the resale value. So three weeks of misery, money spent, and now this, just to get a phone that works. I asked specifically if I was getting a new phone. She said yes but no mention of the fact that it wasn't going to be in an original box.
Don't get me wrong. If this one stays right. I'll be real happy. I love this phone. But I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE WRINGER.
I resent yours and others smug attitude. So you got lucky. You all love to put those of us suffering through these issues into a blanket group of whiners. Like we should just take our defective phones and shut up.

My issues were neither minor nor cosmetic. They affected useability.

O.K.
1) I never said i had not had an issues with the g2x if you had bothered to actually read what i wrote you will have noticed that i stated that ive had issues with most of my android phones and i pointed out that
thats the cost of being an early adopter. Im now on my 2nd g2x and might be going to a 3rd. My first one had a bluetooth issue that wouldnt allow me to turn off the bluetooth without putting my phone in a boot loop. I tried 2 factory resets before being told it was likely a hardware issue. My current one will overheat when im doing a few activities at once or when its on the charger in my car causing the screen to go black for a few minutes till it cools down or i pull the battery. I will more than likely send for a replacement but it hasnt been consitantly doing it so im not sure if ill be keeping it or not.

2) And this was really my point in my post not to dump on anyone whos having problems but to merely point out that ALL NEW PHONES HAVE ISSUES/MANUFACTURER DEFECTS/BUGS. When you early adopt a phone you do so partially knowing that you will be a guine pig. My friend has worked in electronic retail for nearly a decade and he tells me that the first month of a new device is the worst, its almost guaranteed that any new device will have a percentage of defective devices because although they do quality control testing somethings will not be discovered until a device sees real everyday usage, just like software bugs will be discovered after real usage. It happened with the evo as far as build quality the nexus one and s, the mytouch 3g 4g and slide, and every other new device on the market. Again if you dont believe me check anyone of the countless threads on any new phone.

3) Im familiar with this because its happened to me every time that i buy a phone on release day or within its first 2 months out on the market "early adoption". I went thru 2 mytouch 3gs, 3 behold 2, 2 mytouch 4gs, my girlfriends 4 samsung vibrants. Yes some of its due to crappy software as in the case of the vibrant and the behold, and some of it was due to hardware manufacturer issues that were identified later on such as with the mytouch 3g and 4g.

I didnt have anywhere near that many issues with my nexus one, why??? Because i didnt get my nexus one until almost the middle of febuary almost march, a whole 2 1/2 months after it came out. After the 2 software patches and the updates were released. Was it a smoother device yes because most of the issues had been identified by that time. I still ended up swapping one out around this time last year when the power button wasnt working for me.

3) If i came of as dogging you or ragging on the "whiners" you said it not me, no not my intention i thought that maybe me explaning this would provide a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Was i frustrated when i was holding these devices with issues? Hell yes! Did it suck that it might have taken a week or 2 before i had a device that i was happy with? Hell yes! To this day every time i see a commercial for a samsung phone i want to put my fist thru the tv, thats how much i hate samsung. But i also know that once my device was working properly it was the best phone i had owned for that time.

The lg g2x even with all the problems is still the single best phone ive ever owned. Games on this phone flow like water, the screen is amazing and just goldylocks size between not to big and not to small. The camera and video are great and i love that i can hook it up to my tv thru hdmi. The rumor is that an update to gingerbread and software patch will be out as early as next week, we'll see.

I'm sorry if that came out like a personal attack. I'm not ragging on you really, I just get bent out of shape at the implication that any of it is the users fault, whether it be by being an early adopter or a power user or by putting on the wrong apps or whatever. It appears to be the luck of the draw.

My new one came yesterday, and so far (dare I say, knock on wood, please oh please!) seems perfect! I didn't get a new box, but it sure looked new and pristene. According to a build note I found with Anycut, it was built March 27!
And I like what I see bleed wise the best on this, my third one. My wife and I have had some discussions about it. She thinks it has bleed, I say none. It has a faint glow, but it is totally uniform. I just don't think it qualifies as bleed. And if it does, it is a mere fraction of my previous "worst case". Screen bleed has been a definate non issue for me. And I keep my brightness at 100%.

But after 24 hours this one seems perfect! No reboots or problems of any kind. I'm lovin' it. But it did indeed take 4 weeks and 2 rejects to get here. And also of note, I have it set up the exact same way I did the first two times.
One thing that ticked me off....both launcher pro and angty birds game saver failed to save their settings for me. I guess cause of the internal sd card thing? I was pretty far along on me 'birds.....

At times I wish I was going crazy downloading apps, then I'd know what I'd have to change, but I don't have one extra app that I didn't have on my Nexus One and G2.

My second one has had less restarts and shut downs than the first (the first one mostly had shut downs), so I'm counting myself lucky because I can still use the phone as an alarm clock. (<insert>Shameless plug for Gentle Alarm.</end>)

All I use is Amazon MP3, GMail, Talk and Messaging. Once a day I'll check out the Market and the Amazon App Store.

I'm by no means abusing this phone with those, as those are pretty common apps that most people probably have installed.

Because I have a hard time believing that some people go through a number of these phones while others have not noticed any issues with them.

Sorry if I sound like a jackass, I just would like to know. It just boggles my mind.
I've sent in numerous phones under warranty, yet I never have had any of the "common" problems the phones have, and have yet to send one in for messing up all on its own

They're all part of the same or similar batch. How much different can they be?

My friend's phone, which has been perfect, restarted five times yesterday. He was pissed. He kept blaming Tasker for my restarts and shut offs, now he doesn't know what to say.

Biggest prob-Piss poor reception. Multiple calls not going through. No service on screen. Regularly.
Wifi and data dropping off - like the last one
and
Problems entering numbers on the keypad while on speakerphone, probably a non issue, but I'm getting bugged by these constant issues.

I'm through messing with this phone.

I am having the exact same issues with the wifi. I will connect...it will say connected to ickster. I'll go to the internet or market or click a link fine the first 3 or 4 times. Then eventually, I'll lose my connection. It will show me the screen that says data connection lost. But the wifi icon is there. When I go to settings, the wifi is checked, but it doesn't say connected to ickster. Turning it on and off fixes it....until it goes out again. I can duplicate this consistently. This while my sons Indulge, our 2 laptops and my daughters G2X will be working fine....side by side. And the tmobile connection is sparodic at best as well.

This phone also has the worst screen bleed of the four. I feel bad now for dogging people who complained about this. When I put phone #3 and #4 side by side, this new one has noticably worse colors...esp noticable on the whites. The whites on #3 are clearly and obviously whiter. I'm thinking it's 'cause of the excess light on the screen from the "bleed"? I don't jnow, but it really is obvious.
I have not seen any booting or reception issues yet.

I'm really curious where you heard that the Sensation is not rootable. Ive been wanting to get rid of my rooted Vibrant but the G2X was just too big of a disappointment for me to sign a new contract or get rid of all the work I put into my Samsung. Im trying to do final comparison on the 15th between the new batch(if you can call it that) of LGs and the Sensation. I havent been to XDA in a while so I haven't read any threads about them having trouble rooting it.

I think I said that before HTC announced about unlocking the bootloaders. They've even announced that the Sensations will eventually be unlocked as well.

But it does appear that the Sensation has serious reception issues as well. And I can't figure out if it has a wired video out or not.

I had G1, Clik, Nexus One, MyTouch 4G, now G2x. I can easily say G2x is the worst phone. Yeah, the spec shines. But the flaw in this phone makes it unusable. Can't wait to get Sensation 4g.
