will an unlocked phone get better service?

Hi. I need some info because this is driving me crazy.

I have a T-Mobile G2X. I just moved and my apt is in a place that is a random spot T-Mobile just doesn't have service... at all... no calls, no text, no data, nothing. just says "no service". However, my roommate who has AT&T has a perfect signal here.

I guess my question is if I unlock the phone, even still using a T-Mobile sim, would it use the AT&T towers to get signal? If not, is there a way to use another providers towers?

You could unlock and use it on AT&T but you need a AT&T SIM and you'll only get 2G data.

Contact T-Mobile. Best thing might be to talk to the retention dept. (dial 611 and say 'disconnect service'). They can provide a home signal booster and unlike AT&T, VZW or Sprint, T-Mobile doesn't charge for it.

If you have a wireless internet connection, you can use wifi-calling...I get no signal in my place either :-\
