You could unlock and use it on AT&T but you need a AT&T SIM and you'll only get 2G data.
Contact T-Mobile. Best thing might be to talk to the retention dept. (dial 611 and say 'disconnect service'). They can provide a home signal booster and unlike AT&T, VZW or Sprint, T-Mobile doesn't charge for it.
