I'm trying to connect my phone to my laptop. I'm running vista 64 bit.
I'm connecting via usb, then I follow the steps to mount the sd card and windows recognizes the phone as a disk drive (the autoplay option even pops up). Then I go to open one of the folders on the phone (like my music folder) and I get a message saying to insert a disk or that no disk is inserted in the drive. The sd card is not corrupt and is installed correctly. In fact the phone works fine when connected to a computer running windows xp. But for some reason it is not working on my machine running vista 64 bit. Can someone please help me??? I've been on the phone with my laptop manufacturer and T-Mobile and nobody knows the problem.

sometimes its the cable... I have that issue all the time with my Vista lappy. Another thing you may want to try is to remove the sd card from the phone and plug it in the lap top alone. Even that sometimes does not work so I do a restart of the pc. Then it works. This is a tuff one for me.

To connect an Android phone to a Windows PC, usually there are two steps:
1. Uninstall current Android USB drivers
2. Install new correct Android drivers

You accomplish 1 by downloading USBDeview to your PC here is the URL USBDeview - View all installed/connected USB devices on your system
Then unzip it and run USBDeview. Right click on each Android driver and delete it

You accomplish 2 by going here Android 1.6 SDK, Release 1 | Android Developers
and downloading the whole Android SDK (software development kit) onto your PC. Extract it to a folder so you can look inside and find a sub-folder called usb_driver. Either move it somewhere easy or take careful note of it's exact location.
Now go to your Android phone. Open Settings. Touch Applicatons. Touch Development. Tap USB debugging to enable it. Then back out to the home page.
Connect your phone to the PC via the appropriate USB cord. Windows will open its New Hardware Wizard. Check that you will tell Windows where to find the files, and Browse to the location of the usb-driver folder. OK will ungrey and if you click it, the correct drivers will, at last, be loaded.
Almost finished. Now disconnect the phone, and repeat going to Settings>Applications>Development. Tap the debugger again to disable it. Back out to the Home Screen. Now connect your phone to the PC. It will be recognized, but in order to see and manipulate the SD card files, there's one more step. Pull down the little white bar at the top of the Android Phone screen. You will see a Notification "USB connected". Tap it and you will be given an option to Mount the phone. Touch Mount.
Now the any File Manager (Windows Explorer, etc.) will see your phone SD card as a separate drive. You can copy, move delete, whatever.
Quite a process, but once done, all you will have to do is connect the phone to the PC and pull down and Mount it.

i have the same problem reported here in samsung i7500.. but the steps u have provided is not working when i install the driver downloaded.. any help??

Sorry about the trouble. First of all, when you attach the phone to the PC, what happens? Does the PC respond? How?
Does the phone respond? How? Do you get the choice to mount the SD card? If you select Mount, does it stay mounted?
These questions may lead to the source of the problem. Other things to look for are bad USB ports or cables, enthusiastic Firewalls, and Windows propensity to load the wrong (or no) driver. That first step is essential and may need to be repeated.

when i connect the phone to PC.. phone responds and says that the USB connected. Then I mount the storage and I am able to view the storage in my laptop (E: & F. Only F: works and e: doesn't work..

does E: used by android and not allowed to be viewed??

And from Samsung I also have new PC Studio to sync the contacts.. When I try to do that It identifies the device but when I double click it, it says "Unsupported Device"

I had installed the device driver from samsung also.. but not sure why this happens..

I've had no issues with my Vista 64bit laptop and mounting and using my myTouch 3G.

I don't think you need extra stuff to just mount the SD card to moves files around. Have you tried:

1. Plug in cable to phone and PC (a USB port you did not use for the phone yet to determine if it is a USB driver issue).
2. You should hear audio cue from PC that you plugged in a USB device.
3. Select from phone, "USB connected" & "Mount".
4. Vista may say, that the "Do you want to scan and fix Removable drive (F?" Select "Continue without scanning".
5. AutoPlay will pop up if enabled. Select "Open folder to view files".

You should now be ble to drag and drop to the mounted USB drive.

If it still doesn't work I would see if you can take your MicroSD card and put it in an adapter and see if you can read in on the same PC and another PC. If you can't I would say the data on the MicroSD card is bad somehow. Copy off the files (and hidden files) to hard drive, reformat MicroSD and copy back the files.

Also, I it keeps asking me to install the ADB software that came with the phone but I don't know what that is.

I was having the same problem where I couldn't connect my Spring HTC Hero to my PC, but I was using a 3rd party USB cable. When I used the actual USB cable that came with my phone, I connected without any problems.
