Like I said in the phandroid news thread: "Never thought I'd see the day. It'll be interesting to see how well this performs compared to other custom 2.2 ROMs for the MT3G. With that said, I won't be updating until a rooted version is available."
I haven't been impressed with the 2.2 ROMs I've tried so far. The 2.1 ROM I'm using now (Super E with Zeem launcher) runs a lot better that the few 2.2 ROMs I've tried. But hopefully ROM devs will be able to use this official 2.2 ROM to make their custom ROMs better.
Also, I noticed that they didn't mention Swype in the change log. I was hoping that they would include that. Oh well.

LOL , figures, I just rooted two weeks ago and installed CM6
lol, me too. I rooted and unrooted a long time ago and went back to stock but installed CM6 a week ago, then nandroided back to OEM + root a few days ago. This morning I nandroided back to CM6 and now I see this.
I just flashed my girlfriends mytouch 3g phone to CM6 last weekend know she wants to go back to donut 1.6 to get the update where can I find 1.6 update to flash back to stock any help would be great..

I was hoping to hear some reviews first since I'm already rooted with CM6. I might go back to stock this weekend to try out the official update though.
Talked to T-Mobile about my phone. The referred me to HTC. HTC said that all the original mytouch phones should be getting the OTA update, regardless of carrier, just as long as there is either wifi or data plan.
On a side note, T-Mobile said that 2.2 should be rolled out for all eligible android phone by the end of the month.
I would assume so. Just a month ago I went back to Cupcake and the Donut update came through OTA in about a day.
i been on cupcake for about 5 days now i still got nothing, tmobile is trying to push donut to my myphone by imei number, they also had me try this code to see if it would force update *#*#2432546#*#* it shows updates for apps. hopefully i get 2.2, 1.5 kinda sucks after using cm6 rc3

Did you restore any data with mybackup or titanium backup? I did and it prevented the 1.6 update from downloading. I had to do a factory reset and wait until 1.6 downloaded and installed before using mybackup to restore anything.
Do a factory reset on your phone and don't install anything that isn't from the market until you get your ota update. Leave your phone on and on 3g, not wifi, overnight too.

Reason: horrible english
nope, still slumming on 1.5 and when I check for updates, it says "system is up to date"
When I unrooted, I didn't do a date wipe, should I have done that? Maybe that's the reason why.
I'm new to this whole rooting and unrooting thing, so I might have made a mistake.
I'll say one thing though, Cupcake is running super fast, much faster than Donut and Cyanogen 6.0 were. Maybe the MT3G just can't handle Froyo (or Donut for that matter, lol). That's why I figured I'd unroot and try the official update. I don't blame Cyanogen for it being slow, I'm sure its fast as hell on newer phones.

Hmm, weird. Leave the phone on for 24 hours straight, with wifi off so that it's connected via 3G. Worked for me.

sappimg overwrites everything, so a data wipe would be irrelevant in this case.

Agreed! That's why I gave up on Eclair and FroYo for the mytouch and why I'm not even sure if I want the update. This phone just doesn't have the power for it.

yeah i will give that a try if that does work and i dont get any update by the 25th ill call in and get a new phone. tmobile said they will replace it for free for me since am having issuses with force close messages and what not. they said my insurance will cover it . i do agree 1.5 does run alot better than 2.1 and 2.2 my gps picks up so much faster and locates me right away hopefully 2.2 runs smoothly.

Nice, if they replace it tell them you want at least a slide instead of the same mytouch you have.
Really...? Do you mean that literally? If so I will definitely give that rom a try. I love Eclair but I love speed more.
yes. It's been a long time since I've tried CM4 or stock 1.6, but Super E compared to Super D and HTC Clay's Stupid Fast 1.6 ROMs are just as smooth...especially over time. Usually most ROMs will run smooth at first, but tend to slow down over time. I'm not experiencing that with Super E.
Super E just uses the plain 1.6 launcher, but I've been using Zeam launcher with it and it's super smooth. Much better than the bloated ADW and Launcher Pro.

Agreed! All I want is a plain vanilla rom with a few tweaks. Thanks for the tips, will definitely give this rom a try, possibly even tonight.
I got super excited when I read that the update was finally coming down but it was short lived when I saw that Fender MyTouch3G's like mine and the other 3.5mm/v1.2 3G's will be waiting.
I'm kinda with shawn1224, let the original 3Ger's get theirs and see how the reaction and performance is. Knowing TMob' though I worry if they'll even facilitate the update for the newer 3G's if issues arise.
And I HATE when carriers act like a phone that's 9 or 10 months old is ancient garbage that needs replacing. The initial notice from TMoNews said...

A lot of you owners have moved on to bigger and better things but for those of you still holding on, or holding out for something better than I hope I have your attention. Beginning tomorrow, thats right, TOMORROW T-Mobile and HTC will begin an OTA rollout of Android 2.2
You know what I mean?! These creeps should be taking care of customers who bought technologies that were "the biggest and best" literally just months ago! Not condescending to us like we "haven't moved on yet" and are fossils for not owning the newest device they're pipelining, which of course will be considered dinosaur dogcaca in half a year...

I know right! Cupcake is real fast, but then Cyanogen is not the reason for the lag & stuff, it is a combination of launcher & system settings that affects performance.
I called T-Mobile and asked them if I will get 2.2 since I am on 1.5 and he said that would not be a problem. actually 2 customer reps told me the same thing. so i am keeping my fingers crossed. Will you update me if you receive 2.2?
For those of you who reverted and are stuck at 1.5, I reverted back to stock using this guide and am holding steady with 1.6 build DMD64, no update yet. That guy in the t-mobile thread linked above is still the only forum post I've seen about someone receiving the update yet. The thread sounded like someone posted screenshots but they were yanked. I'll post some shots once I get the update.

I can't get the files from that page, tried from work and home. "Connection has timed out"
is there a chance that so many people are trying this that the servers are just shot?
