We're in the Houston area & My wife got the OTA last Wednesday. She loves it, but the battery life is horrible now (think I read that the CPU speed was increased, so that's probably why) I waited until Sunday and decided just to do the manual update. Overall I'm loving it, though I'm having a few issues with it. First, the battery life is terrible. Second my USB headset that came with the phone no longer works, yet works fine on my wife's phone. And third, my phone randomly reboots now. The reboots aren't constant, it's only happened about 6 times since Sunday. I did a factory reset before & after I updated as well. Any who the phone runs great, everything is quick & smooth and the interface is very slick. I'm super happy overall and this should hold me over until I'm due for an upgrade next year.
Yup talked to tmobile today, it's by imei. Guy said they sent some out then waiting a few days to make sure there's no issues. Said they will be rolling out the update till the 31st. Should be soon my friend.

I'll be close to switching phones by then lol
::rubs his eyes and then both floppy ears drop:: hehe... did not see your post!
by the time I get the update, I'll already have the MyTouch 4G
lol I was thinking the same thing. They tried to push it out to me but it failed due to me removing the stupid amazon mp3 app which is located in /system/app.
Apparently the OTA update didn't like that.

It's only "confirmed" in the sense that I read it in a post over at XDA, so no, it has not been confirmed. To me that sounds like the most logical theory I've heard yet, so I'm going with that for now.
My phone is sooooo much slower now with the 2.2 update! If I do a factory reset, will it erase all my pictures i have on it?
If the pictures are stored on the device it will erase them. It'll also erase any apps that you have downloaded from the market. I would recommend removing your SD card before you do it.
I'll call up T-Mo and ask when my contract is up, and what my termination fee is, and I'll get the MyTouch 4G for the same price a new customer would. I don't mind paying around $200 or so, just not paying $540.
I've had the MT3G since last August, as long as you've had your current phone for over a year, and you get in touch with the right person, they'll usually hook you up if they think you're willing to terminate and leave to another carrier.

So you're saying you can buy the phone without contract for $200??

When the MT3G came out, I had the Sidekick LX. I was sick of it, so I called and told them I needed a new phone, but wasnt going to pay $500 for it.
As soon as I told them I was willing to pay the $175 to terminate the contract and go to Verizon, they put me through to a supervisor or whatever and I got the MT3G for $150. They did add a year to my current contract, but I didn't care. At the time, that was the price for the phone with the 2 year contract.
I also did that when I went from the Razr to the Sidekick. It's worked 2 years in a row, hopefully it works again.
T-Mobile sure is taking their sweet time. Everyone that's already got the ota update, has it been in the am or pm that you've received it? I'm guessing mostly am.

When my wife got hers it was early AM while we were still sleeping when she got up for work around 5am she noticed the update.. I waited until this past Sunday and just manually updated. Took like 10 minutes & done deal. Froyo is great so far, but a real battery hog.

Have you had anymore issues with random resets? I'm not positive, but i think you're the only one who reported that problem? If you haven't had anymore issues i might just manually do it. I'm assuming you just followed the directions that were posted on pg 1 of this post?

I've heard a good number of people say it really drains on the battery
I got tired of the wait... I manually updated and everything is working fine. The only thing I notice is how slow the typing is showing up while I'm typing on here. Its super delayed.

Yea I still have reboot issues, but it's not like every 5 minutes or anything. I've only had it reboot on me about 7 times since Sunday. I did another master reset on Wednesday, but it rebooted once that day. Now to be perfectly honest I think the issues just may be with my phone because about 2 days before I did the update my phone shut off twice on me out of nowhere. The battery was near full as well. I went to pick up my phone to use it and it was off. I turned it on and it booted up fine then about 10 min later I went to use it again and it was off.
Then I updated Sunday morning (about 5am) and did a factory reset before and after the update and later that day, around 2pm the phone rebooted out of nowhere, when the phone booted back up it couldn't find service and after about 10 seconds of no service it rebooted again and it was fine after that. About 30 min later the phone rebooted again and it was fine. I took it to a T-mo store and ask them about it and to see if they could test the battery, they said my battery was out of warranty so they couldn't replace it (wtf?) but it didn't look damaged or anything. So he called tech support up and they asked me somethings and ultimately told me to take out the memory card and put it in to see if that helped. The phone was fine the rest of the day, but reset once the next day.
Also my USB headset that came with the phone doesn't work now. It works fine on my Wifes phone, but doesn't on mine. Like I said before, I did another factory reset on Wed and tried the headset yesterday and it actually worked for a little bit, but the phone dropped the call and wouldn't work after that so I'm not sure what's up with that.
Anyways as far as the phone rebooting and freezing occasionally, that might not be from the update since I was having issues before the update.

Did you do a factory reset after you finished the update?
The two times I tried to update they appeared early in the morning after leaving the phone on all night. I usually turn it off overnight. I haven't seen any popups for a week or so.

I've also heard that Froyo brings the processor up to its full speed. OEM 1.6 is underclocked to 328mhz, down from the hardware's capability for 528mhz. Why they did that I will never know...
On my oem 1.6, rooted, I use setcpu to set it 245 - 528 on demand, and my battery life is BETTER than straight 328. When I ran CM6 I had massive battery drain too, so bad that the phone would get really hot when it was idling. That's why I gave up on that rom.
Whatever the battery drain is, it's not processor speed. It's some obnoxious background process.

You should. Most people who had problems after update only did until they did a factory reset.
Overall I would never expect 2.2 to be as fast as 1.6. It's a bigger OS and more of a memory hog, and our hardware is just so limited in the first place. I'll give it a try when it comes through with root and overclock, but I'm not expecting it to be as fast as I'm used to.

Cat whiskers and and puppy paws, they have moved the date to December 15th. It's possible there were to many problems that needed to be resolved

The update will be sent to customers using the original myTouch 3G in staggered waves beginning October 13 and we anticipate all customers will receive it by December 15.

I wish I'd brought some celery for you.
::a small lil smirk forms upon his bunny face:: That would have been nice, perhaps next time.
I saw on the T-Mobile website that the update will be going out to Mytouch 3G's between October 13th through the 31. Here it is 10/30 at 6:15pm and I have no update, no text... WTF!!! Bleh

Just do the update yourself. I did, it was pretty painless... the only thing was i was having a problem with was with the naming the files. they say rename the files update.zip thats not exactly correct... you rename the file Update that is it.... it takes about 10 minutes to download the 2 files and complete the whole process... Im very happy I did it! I think the phone will now hold me over til im ready for a new 2 yr aggreement.... by the time I might be saying peace to tmobile and hoppin on over to at n t... well see.....

Uhmmm, if you don't have windows set to SHOW EXTENSIONS of filenames, then you actually renamed it to update.zip.zip. Does that make sense? When you renamed it to just "update," the .zip part was already there, but hidden.
I'm guessing you're not super technical with computers?

I am currently running the manual OTA update Android 2.2.1, Build FRG83B
Witht the Android Market Update to Version 2.09

Nope I have not seen anything about the free up of 15 megs. I checked my available memory and its just about 26 megs. This is with some apss that run in the background but I can say testify to this, before the 2.2.1 update it seemed to running with the same memory available so if 2.2.1 puts aside some RAM for itself then some it freed up.
And let us not forget about the celery this time ::winks::
