MYTouch 3G 1.2
Hi all I looking to buy my first android phone and I have been reading the threads from all of the forums. Needless to say I am confused.
Why did the original MY Touch get discontinued?
Why can't I find a new or updated review of the new MY Touch?
I know this is a MY Touch forum, but do all recommend the new My Touch over the Behold 2, Cliq XT and the new Sony coming out later this year.

The new myTouch has a few things better than the older one starting with the 3.5mm jack. Since you have a better model there is no need to continue with the old one and hence the replacement.
As for the review, here is a
link where you can find a video review.

The new Mytouch, 1.2 is the same as the old 1.0, but has more Ram memory and a 3.5mm headphone jack, that's why the old one got discontinued, because there's a new version out. I would definitely suggest a Mytouch 1.2 over a Behold 2 or the new Cliq, but that's just me, I've never considered using those phones because I didn't think that they had anything better to offer. Really if you want the best phone, take back your Mytouch and get a Nexus One, or you can wait for the Sony, but I'd stick with the HTC made Mytouch and Nexus personally.
Any other questions, just ask.

If you can't afford the Nexus One and can't wait for the Sony, I definitely recommend the MyTouch 3G v1.2. I exchanged my v1.0 for it and am loving it. It's definitely faster, and I am on the thing constantly. It comes with Swype installed as the default text input client, which is just genius. Such a sweet way to type on a touch screen. Of course you can get swype for just about any phone now.

How did you manage to exchange it? Does Tmobile does it for free?

Re: MYTouch 3G 1.2
Maybe. But lets see, if the new mytouch end up getting two point one then it may have been. I know when my cousin called tmobile about it and they said they knew about it and that the os update was gonna fix it. He asked what os update and the rep said 2.1

I think that both phones will end up getting the same os. That was the big fear with the blackberry storm 1 and storm 2... the only major difference was the storm 2 ran way faster because of the added memory.

What apps are those?
For the most part I can see everything in Market. Once though I couldn't sort by "paid apps". It just showed "just in" and "free apps" ... but the next day it was back to normal.

I was reading that as well. It looks like it's only the protected apps that are not showing up. Something about not recognizing the hardware configuration for the 1.2
Hopefully a fix will be sent out.

I was still within the 30 day exchange/return period offered in CA under the "Buyer's Remorse" clause. I think it's only 14 days in other states.
