I just received my MyTouch this afternoon and was just wondering how do you sync it to the computer. Its connected via the mini usb that was provided but I can't find any drivers or software that would give me the ability to import music and videos on the device. Does anybody have a solution to this?

Transferring files from your Pc over to your Mytouch isn't any different than transferring files from one folder to another on your computer. Just plug your Mini usb cable to your Pc and to your Phone as you would a G1 or blackberry. Mount it if & when u get the prompt , then go to your my computer from your start button and find the Removable disk and double click it after you have mounted your phone with your computer. Bring up your removable disk folder and your music folder..click & drag your music files from one side of your computer to the other. Make sure you unmount your phone from the computer before unplugging it.
Well that's how i import my music so i hope that was helpful
After hooking up your device to the PC you have to manually choose to "mount" the usb drive on your MyTouch. It's in the notification bar. I read this in the user's manual and it worked for me:
1.13 Using the Phone’s Storage Card as a USB Drive
To transfer music, pictures, and other files from your computer to your phone’s storage card, you need
to set the phone’s storage card as a USB drive.
To set the phone’s storage card as a USB drive
1 Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable. A notification icon appears in the status
bar.
2 Open the Notifications Panel. Refer to “To open the Notifications panel” on page 27 to learn how to
open the Notifications Panel.
3 In the Notifications Panel, touch USB connected and then touch Mount.
When you select Mount, the phone will not recognize the storage card when it is connected to a
computer. You will not be able to use some of the phone’s applications such as Camera. You need to
turn off USB storage for the phone to recognize the storage card when the phone is connected to a
computer. Refer to the next procedure to learn how to turn off USB storage.
To turn off USB storage
1 Open the Notifications Panel. Refer to “To open the Notifications panel” on page 27 to learn how to
open the Notifications Panel.
2 In the Notifications Panel, touch Turn off USB storage and then touch Turn Off.
To safely remove the storage card while the phone is on
When you need to remove the storage card while the phone is on, you must unmount the storage
card first to prevent corrupting or damaging the storage card.
1 Press HOME, then press MENU, and then touch Settings.
2 Scroll down the screen, then touch SD card & phone storage.
3 Touch Unmount SD card.
Remove the storage card by following the instructions in “To remove the storage card” on page 18.
To format the SD card
1 Press HOME, then press MENU, and then touch Settings.
2 Scroll down the screen, then touch SD card & phone storage.
3 Touch Unmount SD card. This enables the Format SD card option.
4 Touch Format SD card > Format SD card.
The Following User Says Thank You to milocraft For This Useful Post:
There is an app called MOUNTUSB in the marketplace that makes this significantly easier. It has a widget that you can place on your home page that makes it as easy as connecting the USB cable and touching the widget.
For anyone that likes to tether their PC, as I often must for business reasons, there is another app called "PDANET" and it works quite well, at least with my MyTouch. There is a small fee for that one. It's well worth it to me, though.
A program called Media Monkey, the Gold Edition, will automatically sync your Mytouch, I would use that its the best! Besides of course just mounting your phone on your computer and moving everything over that you'd like.

If you mean this process above, then yes, you will lose everything on your SD card. But all you need to do is -
1. Plug your mini USB cable into your phone, then into your computer.
2. Pull down the notification bar on your phone and select to mount your phone. You're computer will recognize it as a memory card
3. So open it up transfer all the files you want to keep to a specified place on your computer.
4. Close down all the windows, go back to your notification bar and select to unmount your phone, then select turn off USB mount or whatever it says.
5. Then begin with the process listed above. This will basically format your SD card to your phone's liking. I suggest it.

Are you just trying to put files on your SD card? What kind of computer/operating system are you running? Usually your computer doesn't need to officially recognize it, but rather, in Windows, there will be another drive listed in the Computer, that's your SD card and you can drag files to it.
i have windows but not sure of wich version. im going to try at home with windows vista but is not letting me do it, i put my old sd card from my sidekick on my mytouch and still dont open. i dont know if i have to download a application for that but i cant do anything with it.
i connected my usb to the computer then on my phone where the usb symbol shows up at on the notification bar i clicked that then it gave me the option to mount or dont monut you click MOUNT then go to whatever program it is on your computer that you plan on sending music to then sync your phone and BOOM your done...
I unmount the sd card, hook it up to my computer, get the prompt to mount my sd card, select mount, tells me to turn off usb mass storage, I start the whole process over and I always get the prompt turn off usb mass storage..
i just received my mytouch this weekend...I did what is stated above to try and get my phone to be synced so i can transfer over some mp3's and pictures. I got the phone to be recognized and seen in windows explorer. The moment i try and copy over an mp3 i hear the phone beep and it's almost as if it "unsync's" or something. Im not sure but it won't copy the files. Any ideas? Thanks

Well if you have done everything listed above and that isn't working, then you could try to turn off the phone and take out the Micro SD card, put it into the SD card adapter, then put that into your computer and try the process again.
That's an extreme way to work around it. There must be something going wrong. Are you transferring from one Windows Explorer window to the SD card music folder? Or are you moving straight from like Windows Media player or iTunes? Be sure that you do the first.
Also try to go to the phone Settings --> SD card & Phone Storage --> then see if the sd card is mounted or unmounted. It should be mounted when not plugged into your computer, then I believe it should switch to unmounted when you plug your phone into your computer and pull down the notification bar and Select to copy files to your computer and then select mount. Restart your phone, and try the process again if nothing is working. Otherwise I would take back the phone, because it would be incredibly annoying to have to transfer files by taking out your SD card over and over.
ok, whenever i do what above...under the SD settings the card is mounted when not connected to computer. Once i click "mount" when conected to the usb cable it brings up the windows window that say's there is an error with the device and recommends scanning it to fix errors. I click "continue without scanning" and then try and load the files and this is the screen i get after it "beeps" the phone. I can't click the other option that says "fix" because when i do it beeps the phone and unsyncs it just like when trying to copy mp3s. I also just tried to format the sd card and now the only folder that shows up on teh computer is LOST.dir, and it's still doing the same thing.

Ok, that same "Continue without scanning" message appears when I plug my phone in, what fixes it for me is to format the SD card. You can do that on your phone under SD Card & Phone Storage. Or you can plug it into your computer with an adapter, right click on it in My computer and select format, be sure to select FAT32, I believe that is default, but just make sure, otherwise your phone won't be able to read it. Try that and tell us how it works.
hey bud, i already did try the format option on my phone. like i say it's wierd whenever i go to the notification and click "mount" it appears to mount then brings up the explorer window in my windows, i can even drag and drop from the phone to my comp, but the moment i try and copy over an mp3 or anything it basically "unmounts" the phone again... Im stumped!

Ok so the Lost.dir will always be on your SD, and thats a good sign because that means that your phone is communicating properly with your SD card. Ok, so you formatted it already, I would maybe say try to do a factory reset and start from scratch. Otherwise if this continues, try a different SD card, or take it back to Tmobile, you shouldn't have to deal with this.
So to recap though, not trying to insult your intelligence, but you plug your phone into the computer and in the notification bar select to mount it and then hit mount, then it comes up on your computer, everything seems fine, but then even when you open up the folder for your SD card you can't drap or drop anything to it? Is that all right, yes it is because that's what you've said. Maybe your SD card is locked. Maybe there is some kind of security enabled. Try going to Properties of the mounted phone and figuring something out that way. I'm out of ideas though.
no insulting taken! this is all new to me, so i know i have no knowledge ...yes that is exactly what happens, once i plug it in then "mount" it via the notification option i can browse the contents on my windows explorer. The next step i tried was to simply drag and drop a 30second mp3 ringtone onto the windows explorer window and i hear it beep on the phone and then it appears as tho it's "unmounted" because it then shows the notification again to "mount" it like i had just plugged it in. If no other explanation i will call t-mobile tommorow and see if i can get it resolved. Thanks for your help sir.

Well sorry we couldn't figure it out, hope that they can get it figured out as well, good luck to you, hope to still see you around here.
hey, i figured out the problem... I was using a USB cable that i had laying around that i "thought" worked because it charged the phone when plugged in, but come to find out once i used the supplied cable that I had plugged into the DC plug, it worked just fine! I researched and saw this problem on another forum:
A couple of things that may caused it to not work properly. Check these:
- Bad USB Cord.
- Bad SD Card.
- Bad USB plug.
- Restart your computer and reboot your phone.
- Defected MT3G.
- Take it to your Tmobile's Store.
figured i'd post that incase anyone else has problems...Make sure you use the supplied USB cable even if it fits and charges.
another question, do i need this or do you know what it is: Multimedia Sync by doubleTwist ...it popped up when i connected the phone the first time
Double Twist is a program similar to iTunes that will allow you to sync your music, videos, pictures, etc, between your phone and computer, I haven't tried it out yet. But I may - Here is a link to the computer program

Glad to hear that you figured it out, I was worried you have to take it back to Tmobile and go through the hassle of all of that. But good thinking, and welcome to the forum!
LOL *sigh* ...that was short lived..is there anything special you need to do after you transfer the songs over before you unplug the phone from the cable? I just went to the top notification and did the "Turn off USB storage" then unplugged...Now when i connect the phone it just charges and doesn't give me the notification on the phone to "mount" it... Damn the luck im having!!!

I just always make sure to close down the windows of my SD card, I don't usually like go and "Safely remove device" or whatever in windows in the bottom right, I just close all the windows and then go to the notifications bar and unmount.

i tried restarting both my phone and computer...no luck...what else? do you think i have to reformat again?
You can try that, and maybe a hard reset of the phone, maybe there is a problem with this cable too, probably not, but maybe. Um, make sure its mounted in the phone in settings and all that, because if it isn't that could give you a problem.
wow i had to disconnect and plug into another USB outlet then it worked... I just don't understand why im having all these issues!
I find that when I unmount it, in order to mount it again I have to physically unplug it from the computer and then plug it back in. Maybe thats the problem.
okay i have not a clue what to do with my mytouch anymore...it won't connect to my computer i have read and read forums but none have the same issue as me...i plug in...i click mount...is does its thing and then i get a little pop up that says please insert disk into drive F...i have connected my phone before and now it just won't work...im sick of reading forums that don't help i have change USB cords and USB plugs and reset and reset and cleaned out...pls help so fed up!

Did you change to a new USB cable, or use one that you had already. If not, try buying a brand-new cable specifically for the MyTouch. I'm almost willing to bet you've got a bad cable, or are using one that wasn't designed for the MyTouch.

I also had this happen with my computer, it had mounted my phone just fine previously and then for no reason at all it just stopped mounting, it wouldn't show up on the computer. But after a restart of my computer and restart of my phone, it worked fine. Give that a try. If that doesn't work I'd suggest you go to the properties of the computer, device manager, and while your phone is plugged into the computer find any driver that has to deal with Android, ADB, HTC, or any of the like and delete or uninstall them. Then unplug and unmount. Restart phone and computer and plug in and try and mount again. Try that and tell us how it goes.
Another tip I read somewhere. When you turn off your computer make sure to unplug the power outlet from the wall as well. Supposedly this resets the motherboard because in an essence modern computers continue to power the motherboard when the computer is off.

I've had this same problem! I really like the phone but this is really getting me PO'd. I am able to get it to connect to my computer and I can transfer files over to the SD card. However, after I use a file managing program like Astro, ES File Explorer, OI File Manager, etc...the program crashes after I try to open a folder with apps in it, create a directory, back up my installed applications, the phone stops recognizing the SD card and even when I plug the phone to my computer (Windows XP) I get the "insert disk into drive F:" message. My phone displays a message "SD card blank or has an unsupported file system."
I can only get my computer to read the card again by removing the card from the phone and reinserting it. I shouldn't have to do that. The SD card should not get screwed up just by using a file managing app. Again, I like this phone and I want it to work! What to do?

Try to reformat your SD card. Back up the files you want from it, mount your phone to how it is working and you can view files on your computer that are on the SD card, right click on the SD card and select format. Be sure to set it to FAT32. Restore the files you backed up, and unmount and see how it works. Good Luck!
I'm new at this- so please don't try to overwhelm me!
I've been working at this for a few hours... following the steps on theunlockr to root my MT3G. I've downloaded the 2 files onto my computer, but I don't know how to get them over to my phone. I've got the phone hooked up to my laptop via USB, but the computer tells me that it doesn't recognize the device, and nothing comes up under Notifications about being connected via USB on my phone.
So how do I get these files onto my phone? This is getting really frustrating. I'm tired of my OS 1.6- my phone runs so slowly!!!
