Smile How many people have this phone?

So I was due for an upgrade and T-mobile had this phone for free so I just went with it. It's in the mail and I should be getting it on Wednesday of this week. I'm completely new to Android but not new to smartphones entirely. This will personally be my first "smart phone" and all though I know that its an entry level device I think (hope \ pray) that it will be good enough for me. There probably was a slightly better android phone that I could have gotten for free instead but I was slightly preoccupied while talking to the sales rep on the phone and didn't have time to do any research first.

My girlfriend has an iphone and since she isn't very good with computers I was always the one messing around with it for her doing things like jailbreaking it and messing around with cydia and other iphone things. All of that now seems like a walk in the park compared to android rooting and customizing based off of everything I've been reading online.

It probably also doesn't help that T-mobile wasn't very creative with the naming of their devices, so every search I do usually ends up with results for the mytouch 3g, 4g, slide etc.

So I'm basically just hoping to find some people here that have the phone as well and have rooted it, or are going to root it and customize it so that we can possibly help troubleshoot and whatever else. My main concern is to first remove all of the bloatware apps Tmobile preloads, and then I don't know what else. Is it possible to upgrade it from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich (or even Jelly Bean) after rooting? Or does that require someone creating a ROM first (which i'm gathering is unlikely for a low end, entry level, unpopular phone)

I have it too, and it's my first smartphone.

I'm still new to some of the more nuances of Android, including just now being introduced to rooting, but I have played on friend's phones that had this same version (Gingerbread), so it wasn't a complete surprise. I would like to know how to deal with some of the bloatware, because I don't use it all, but there are a few things preinstalled for T-Mobile I find handy.
