1 issue with gingerbread 2.3Support

    I also updated late on June 16. Chronic memory shortage and soft restarts since then. I even get the soft restart when I exit Settings. On Sat, it completely froze when I unplugged it from the charger and I had to remove the battery. My phone is not rooted and I don't use a task killer. I usually back out of applications, but admit I don't always do that. Here's what I've tried which has helped but not eliminated the problem:

    > Removed several apps I don't really use.
    > Moved a bunch of apps to the SD card.
    > Updated the PRL and Profile.

    The soft restart used to happen if I played Angry Birds for a long time but now it happens with any and every app.

    I joined because I have this issue. I'm trying to find a way to root my phone in hopes of fixing this - I havent found a way to root it yet, does anyone know how?

    Just got off the phone with Sprint tech support. She said it's a known issue for people who installed the update OTA. Her recommendation is that I take the phone to a Sprint service store. They will reinstall via download. Will mean losing all my data so I'm moving everything I can manage to the SD card and backing up as much as possible.

    Last she heard they were pausing the deployment until the issue is resolved. Sadly I seem to be one of the first to get it pushed to me. She didn't know anything about a bug fix.

    Are you referring to the "loading" screen / HTC screen that appears when backing out of certain apps?

    Hopefully they will have it fixed in a timely manner. Good to know they are aware.

    They told me the same thing. Visual voicemail also stopped working with the upgrade.

    Im on the phone with Sprint support now, I was just put on hold, they had me to a hard reset and it is still happening. I have been escalated to a higher tech. They "haven't heard reports of this" I told them to do a google search

    sorry for the double post. They told me it was required from the manufacturer I asked if they did any quality control. They said no then quickly changed their answer blaming the manufacturer

    An update for everyone. Sprint support claims that they never heard reports of this, while trying to get a replacement phone with 2.2(so I don't have these delays) I was sent to customer retention who put me on hold and spoke to tech support and told then the new rep told me that it was a known issue and a patch would be released soon....seems a little odd to me.

    I don't know how many of you guys are familiar with sprint's customer service, especially with regards to smartphone issues but the lower level reps usually don't have a clue. They are the first line of defense for sprint. And are generally used to weed out the power users from the regular folks. if you are tenacious enough you will eventually get a tech who is knowledgeable and knows about the issues you may have. (usually they learn it from one of a number of forums, including this one) But anyway, the moral of the story is that you need to be polite, but unyielding if you need to get something from them.

    I just switched to sprint. Good information to have, It would have been nice for them to just say ok thanks known issue, rather than having to be on the phone for 2 and a half hours to get that information today, but hey I guess you live and learn /rant

    Yeah, no doubt man. Thing is, the first tech probably didn't have a clue about the update's issues. But really, I have found that treating them with respect and being friendly will get you a lot farther than being angry and pushy. (even if you are ticked about your phone...)

    Understandable, I was trying my best to be nice, until they started being rude and condensing.(I work as a developer/software test engineer so I understand software bugs quite well) Both my wife's and my phone have this issue and with no root available there is not much I can do to try to fix this one on my own.

    I will check around tonight when I get a minute and see if they have made headway on root. I will post back if I see anything. It may take a week or two, but usually they are on it like stink on, well you get the drift...;)

    I wanted to pass along what I have seen on my Evo Shift 4g. I got the 2.3 update early yesterday when I went to check for updates. Since than everything has been great except for the same reported problem. I was getting it probably close to 95% of the time which was pretty annoying. Coincidentally I received my new 16GB Class 10 card this morning and formatted and copied over the contents of my 2GB card at 10am today. It has now been 12 hours and I have only had the loading issue once so far which I am so happy about.

    So perhaps this has something to do with apps running from the SD card and the Class 2 not being as fast. I never really kept track of which apps i was in when I experienced the issue, so I cant say if they were running on the SD card or not. But now I have 12GB free on my faster SD card.

    Hope that helps other people out, cause its just about solved my issues to date..

    Glad to hear that fixed you, I had a similar problem when I was using the optimus; however, Ive wiped my phone and my wife's phone with tech support today with no avail...Once we figure it out I'll post it for all.

    Fixed!!! Regarding the slow down when pressing the home button,where the screen went to an "HTC logo", and and then read "loading" for perhaps about 15 seconds. I called Sprint Support. They had me pull the battery and re-boot. They also said they pushed along a few "refresh" commands to my phone. Thanks SPRINT!!!

    This is really hard for me to believe, at least that such a low tech answer might work, but I followed Herb's leading, removed my battery and replaced it, opened and closed 10 apps including memory\power extensive apps, and never once saw the white HTC screen. Thanks, Herb!

    I tried doing this as well when I was first troubleshooting my problem, it went away temporally but it comes back, at least for me. It feels more like a memory leak in the OS than anything else at this point.

    Looks like Sprint wants to flash my phones at the sprint store. Hopefully that will work.

    Factory reset seems to have fixed mine.
