Hey there, I just rooted my Telus hero and flashed Villian 10.2 and now my low phone storage icon is on. this happend after I restored all of my apps. the icon was not there before I rooted.

Is this a big problem? should I start putting things onto my SD card?

Any guidance is much appreciated :D

Its probable that im wrong, but...
In Villain 10 apps2sd was enabled so all your apps would have gone to the SD card (i know mine have). In saying this, many people have brought up the fact that when flashing to 10.2 their apps2sd did not work and all apps were moved back to internal phone memory. This might be the cause. Im sure there is a fix for it over at xda, have a look there, also check out the Villain 10 thread on this site.

I think thay have moved the dalvik cache fron the SD card to the phone for performance reasons..

Correct - apps are still on the SD but not the dalvik cache. There was some concern that the change was made without putting it on the changelog. The argument is that the phone memory is faster than the sd, but many including myself had no problems with it being on sd and enjoyed the free space that resulted on the phone. However there is a file floating around the Villain Rom forums that moves it back or you can do it via the kitchen.

on a past version of villain just after i first rooted, i managed to force dalvik cache to run from the sd card, my benchmarks plumited... from 3 mflops down to 1-1.5 flash memory just isnt fast enough to use for the dalvik cache.

i think this is one of the main limitations of the hero.. not having enough onboard memory... aps 2 sd is all well and good and does save some space but you will allways need to run the dalvik from phone memory to see any sort of preformance from your phone.. so your going to get space issues.

Not sure about benchmarks, but for me 10.0 was as fast as I've ever had in real use for any rom, let alone 2.1. Others have observed the same so not all sd cards are equal!

admitadly i was using a class 4 card but i cant see a class 6 making that much diferance... it wasnt just the bench marks it was night and day with the whole phone operation... sluggish and horible with dalvik on sd..

are you really sure that your dalvick was running from the sd card? theres a test that can be done using some sort of scripting app... i did think i was fully apps 2 sd but after testing it showed i was not running dalvik from sd... thats when i tried the forced dalvik thing and dint like it..

I have heard people say a class 6 card is as fast as the phone's own memory, which would explain why some people (including myself) haven't experienced any problems.

Although I've never actually really benchmarked with or without, so I can't say for certain it makes no difference.

I didn't need to run any test - you could see it was from the massively different amount of free phone memory.

It's not got much to do with the class, that only states a minimum a card should be able to perform a quality class 4 can in fact be faster than a cheap class 6.

I've found that my class 6 SD is actually quicker than internal memory as in my home screen widgets are ready to use much quicker with Dalvik on SD than on internal memory.
