2.0.1 Update Wifi still sucks bad advice needed

    So, I have been waiting for the update to come before I made a decision. My wifi shows 2 bars of signal, but it connects and disconnects over and over again making wifi useless. It does this at work too. The update doesn't seem to have helped any. Is anyone else experiencing this or is there something wrong with my specific phone? should I return it?

    I think that there are reported cases of WiFi having issues. Neither of my (2) Droids (44/09 and 39/09) had any issues connecting to my SOHO class Netgear routers via WPA. I consistently saw 10Mb and 7 Mb on both my Verizon and Comcast routers per speedtest.net.

    I have been using wifi from the moment I brought my phone home three weeks ago and I never experienced flaky signal, etc. I am using wifi right now and it shows the entire icon lit up wight for full signal/reception. There should be no reason for a sporadic wifi signal especially if you are right near your wireless router so I say yes, take the phone back.

    Why would you say that when he hasn't explained what he's done to troubleshoot "the router" or any of the settings? I was having issues getting an old laptop to connect wirelessly, which I originally used to configure the router. I've been fighting with it off and on for 2 weeks until I finally checked the DHCP scope, and realized that there weren't enough addresses available.

    ok, im calling cs tomorrow. I'm sitting in the exact same place now with the netbook and it has full signal on wifi and no connection issues.

    Definitely call...WiFi has been great for me...no issues or problems.

    its definitely not a configuration thing. i have enough wireless devices in this house and everything else works great. it connects. i get a signal. fire up the browser. the page loads half way then it drops out and falls back on 3g. same thing happens on work where several laptop users including me also connect to the router with no issues. even when im standing 3 feet from the router. same thing. if it was a config issue i would expect it to never connect or to never get an internet connection. but it does both.. just drops a few seconds later.. then reconnects.. then drops.. then reconnects.. then drops.

    hahaha... nice... thanks for the laugh.. im pretty irritated with this thing.. tried turning on my other routers wifi and still no go.. even with open security. connect , disconnect... cant even get it to stay connected long enough to run speedtest.

    My only wifi issue is I have to reset my router every so often. The phone sees it but it wont connect to it unless I reset my router.

    figured I would share my experience. using 2.0, with wifi I have not had any problem with my verizon fios router (MI424wr) it seems to work fine. When I went to my relative's house using their d-link router it would work, but then stop working, even though it showed me connected. I had to disable wifi because it kept doing this. I went onto their router and changed some settings, turned off super G mode, moved to a more open channel) and it didn't seem to help. They never had problems with their laptops and iphones though.

    I don't always turn on the wifi at my house because there doesn't seem to be much visible difference in speed between it and 3G though. I think the CPU processing could be a bottleneck.

    even with aapocketz answer I'd recommend using the wifi analyzer app and the speedtest app to see what you're getting.

    I tested my speed 3 times at an average of 3mbps down....changed the channel to the best one per the wifi analyzer, tested the phone again in the same physical spot and got 8mpbs average, the channel not being best is a real choker on the wifi speeds. not saying that has to do with the range of the router, that's a different problem.

    at my parents house my phone connects solid to the router where-as my dads's iphone constantly clicks on and off, laptops work great throughout that house.

    When I read posts such as these I automatically assume preliminary troubleshooting has been done.

    In your case the laptop would fail to connect rather than connect sporadically sd indicated in the original. Anyway, it is what it is and I hope the original poster's problem has been resolved.

    I cannot get my droid to even connect to my wireless at home.. It has it remembered but will not connect.. It always says unable to connect.. No idea whats wrong.. It does the same thing at work to.. we have multiple access points with all the same password and it will connect to one but not another.. I am beg to think its the phone, not the networks.

    I had a silmilar issue with my old Touch Pro in that it was the only device that would not connect to my home wireless network, when many other devices including other cell phones would. Try setting your router to 802.11b only and see how that goes. I finally traced my issue back to my router and it being set to b,g, and n. A firmware update on the router after that solved all my problems.

    I don't...given the high percentage of people I've come accross that only give a half-hearted attempt before throwing up the white flag. That or they often overlook something simple, simply because they just don't know.

    Even if you do assume preliminary work has been done, you can't truly help unless you know what they have done, and what state they are presently in.


    Fair enough, but the OP's original post didn't really specify what "connected" meant. My laptop could have been described as being in a "connected-then-not-connected" state, just because it had a "green" indicator, then "red" as it attempted to acquire an IP address.

    My wifi stops working sometimes after some browsing and I also have to turn it off and use 3G. Only when using my Motorola router at home though. :rolleyes:

    I will give you the last word on this one because my life does not afford me the time to debate troubleshooting styles. As I previously stated, I hope the OP's problem has been resolved.

    quick reply regarding wireless router issues (only skimmed through thread so I may have missed mention of this):

    My LinkSYS WTR45G router had problems with my Droid until I did a firmware update on the router. Now my Droid connects fine with it.

    I saw mention of this in another forum thread on the Motorola official forums.

    Just want to point out that both my Eris (since returned) and my Droid have had terrible reception - 3G, Voice, *and* WiFi. I'd assume this was just a bad device, but I've been through *two* HTCs and now this Moto, with no change.

    Moved my router over to Channel 1 (*nothing* else is on 1, per ), and I only get -50dbm when I set the Droid *on* the antenna. About 10' away, it drops to -60dbm, -80dbm at ~15', and No Signal at ~20'. And the connection drops *constantly*, no matter how far away I am. Ordinarily, there are about 15 different devices (smartphones [BB and WM], notebooks, iPods) connected with no trouble at all.

    I'm about to just drop the idea of having a Verizon phone altogether, given that I can barely get a signal (in Atlanta, of all places), even if I'm the one providing it. I know Verizon has a better network than anyone else, but they've failed miserably at servicing me.

    I have had horrible WiFi experience ever since the day I got the phone (launch day). I have two or three bars, and it can't connect or load any webpage at all.
