Well the time is closing in, we're getting closer to the 2.1 update that will (hopefully) start rolling out towards the end of October.

Main improvements from Android 2.1 Xperia update:

    • 30% increase in battery life: Due to Android 2.1 as well as better OS task management.
    • Each homescreen will now display 20 app icons instead of 16. There will be 5 homescreens overall instead of 3.
    • Improvement in the dialler: Applies to application of text messages and e-mail that will help to simplify and streamline operations.
    • New lock screen displays battery level.
    • New start-up wizard: Helps configure the Xperia X10 easily when first setting up. This includes steps to import contacts, setting up Wi-Fi and Gmail account as well as synchronizing with Google sync.
    • Single inbox for multiple emails (Gmail and other).
    • Live wallpapers: Sony Ericsson will offer a selection of 11 live wallpapers to choose from.
    • Ability to import contacts from Facebook and Twitter: Profile pictures will be imported too.
    • 720p HD video recording with autofocus.
    • HTML 5 support and Bluetooth 2.1.

So I have created this thread for everyone across the world, to post information as they receive the update for that phone.

In the meantime, if your carrier announces when they will release the update, you can post it on here :)

Well from my experience with previous phones I had, T-Mobile were always months behind with updates, but they seemed to have pulled their socks up for this update, so maybe Vodafone will release it quickly too :)

    South Africa

    Taken from XDA forums

"With regards to your query on your Xperia X10...We have received an official statement from our head office saying that the update will be available from the end of October. Also, the reason for the delay is to make sure that our version of Android 2.1 runs smoothly and is without a glitch. But we are positive that the update will be available in the coming weeks..."

I pressed them on the exact timing and SE South Africa responded as follows:

"We sincerely wish we could have given you more information and how it will work, however, what we know we have informed you on. We have not been told how it will work and the exact date it will be available, we have been given this round-about time to relay to customers. The best way to be in the know when it comes to it's availability is to register to our website. You will be updated on any developments, as and when they happen."

Back in September, SE Canada was only saying Q4 and when pressed for further details, all they would say is "Q4 runs from October to December" -- Thanks SE, that totally doesn't help at all :p lol

We've heard very little since. Keeping an eye on it though..

I've just made a few calls for information on the update for Mexico, and so far, everyone tells me that the update will be coming on the last week of October or the first week of November. An specified date is unknown yet.

That's good, as I do have SEUS but on running it, it puts my computer flat on its face (freezing, reboot, freezing, reboot.. eventually after enough freezing and rebooting I can get it to work, but wow, urgh).

I blame Windows Vista. I can't wait to get my new computer

    Alright, here is my contribution:

    Country - Mexico
    Carrier - TELCEL

The update was confirmed by Sony Ericsson, it will be coming "along with the worldwide update" at the end of October, OTA. Users will be notified through SMS or Email when it becomes available.

I'm actually surprised you guys really care when the update gets rolled out in your country or on your network, it stumps me really!

all we need is a clean version without crap software in it and then we can just share the image and install it on our phones, no need to wait for the carier to do their tampering with it

i currenly have an X10 from vodafone which they kindly unlocked for me and i promptly installed the UK non branded 1.6 os on it, immediatley i was able to update via SEUS to .26 firmware (Vodafone in australia was still on the original release!)

so really stop it :) once it's out somewhere around the world we all gave it in minutes :)

Well the majority of Xperia users prefer to do it the natural way, so I am doing this to keep everyone informed. Just because you prefer to do it your way, doesn't mean everyone else does ;)

    Hi guys,

I'm new this forum. I bought the Sony Xperia X10 today but can't figure out how to take pictures with flash. I see the flash but how do you make it show up when you want to take pictures. I did some research and saw somewhere people were saying X10 has no flash? is that right? would the 2.1 update add flash?

    Thanks advance
