So I've been pumped up over this update since I got my MotoDroid at the beginning of August for 2 reasons:
    1.) Flash
    2.) WiFi Tethering

Sadly, there is no flash right now. Does anyone know when this is coming out?

Also, I was under the impression that since I pay $30 per month for my data package, I should be able to use that on my computer. First off, I have no WiFi hotspot option. Second, when I tethered using the USB cable, it said that it would cost me an additional $20. Is this going to change, or did I misunderstand from the start?

    1. You Get Flash By Downloading It From The Android Market, "Adobe Flash Player".

    2. I Don't Know If You Can Do It But Are You Rooted? If So, Just Search "Tethering" On The Market.

    :D

I searched the marketplace for both.

Searching tethering resulted in a lot of apps that were shortcuts to the tethering settings.

Searching "Adobe Flash Player" gave me "Adobe Flash Showcase" which says in the description that it requires the Adobe 10.1 plugin, which is not showing up in the marketplace.

EasyTether or PDAnet from the marketplace will allow you to tether via usb without paying verizon or having to root.

There is no Adobe Flash Player in The Android Market as of today. I would really like to know what's up with this. I like everyone else that's had the Motorola Droid have been waiting for this day.

2.if you are using skyfire web browser you can go to the adobe site and download 10.1 flash now.
3.if you are rooted you can download wireless tether from the app market free of charge. i've been using it for 2 weeks now and it works great, and its free.

Flash is not currently available on the marketplace as it is still in Beta stages, Froyo allows for the ability to use flash, which it does YOU just need to get the file on your own means until its out of beta stage. to download the flash APK use the link Drewski posted.

As for tethering, if you want to do it wired you can go the verizon path and pay 20$ a month extra for 2GB shared usage. or DL PDA net and use that.

if you want wireless tethering your only choice is to root your phone. if you have more questions PM me or email me michael.cristoferi@wireless-city.com

Yup. I waited (semi) patiently for the 2.2 download. Got it a few days ago. No wireless hot spot. When I figured out that the powers that be were spending the R and D time to put their money-grubbing plan together, I went to Verizon and checked the cost for discontinuing service. Paid the $130, bundled up the phone and all accessories, and put it on Craigslist for $200. (MotoDroid). Sold it in four hours. No more Verizon or Android for me. They are pirates. I loved the Droid. But Verizon and Google worked it out to further drain us by making us pay twice for the same product. I opted out after many, many years with Verizon.

    That was my vote.

Did you really expect Verizon to change their longstanding policy of charging for tethering with the release of 2.2? Verizon has always charged for tethering, and we have always figured out ways around it. Seems kind of stupid of you to spend $130 in protest that they didn't give you free tethering, when you could have spent $9.99 for EasyTether (assuming you wanted to stay stock) and not had to pay Verizon a dime.

I had wired PDA.Net. Didn't work too well with my non 3G iPad, though. Wireless is what was promised with 2.2....

But thanks much for the "stupid" remark. I'm sick of being burned. Whether they've been burning me all along or not. Some of we stupid people still know how to learn.

Should've learned how to root then... honestly its not hard at all. Wireless tether runs fine on my Droid, and I haven't paid one cent to use the feature since the apk you can download from google.

I'm using the Wireless Tether for Root Users app which does require root access.
Wireless Tether for Root Users - Android app on AppBrain This app can be found in the market.

There is an easy way to root which works for some phones/apps. Universal Androot is a 1-click rooting app which doesn't actually modify the bootloader and works with many (not all) apps that require root access. Universal Androot 1.6.1 works on the MotoDroid and I can confirm that it works with Wireless Tether as well as root explorer and SetCPU. This app is not available on the market.

this is exactly why you never buy a phone for what it can be. buy a phone thats fits your needs then and there, NEVER get a phone that may or may not have features down the road, stuff happens and more often than not never makes it to the light of day. If wireless tethering was so important to you, then you should have gotten the palm pre.

I am interested though what phone and service do you plan on going with?

Google never promised Flash and free Wi-Fi Tethering for every phone with a Froyo update, and they couldn't if they wanted to. Google just provides the base OS. The handset manufacturers and wireless carriers decide what features to include/exclude from their phones, and they have the right to do so because Android is open source and freely modifiable. If you get mad at Google for not letting you easily bypass Verizon's tethering fees, you're just ignorant. If you get mad at Verizon for charging for 3G Mobile Hotspot rather than keeping Froyo's built-in wireless hotspot feature, you're also ignorant.

grainysand hit the nail on the head. You don't have a right to free tethering.

You need the FRG22D build installed to see & download Flash 10.1 from the Market. Same file is available via other links though.
