30 Day Trial Period for Epic is just about up...

    Since I picked up the Epic at a Radio Shack on August 31st, I assume they count that as "Day 1" and tomorrow will be "Day 30." That being said, I'm afraid I'm probably going to be returning my Epic 4g and go back to the Evo. I really love the screen, keyboard, dedicated camera button, and overall snappy response from the phone, but I can't look past Samsung's less than stellar reputation for updating their phones. They really didn't put out any helpful updates during the first 30 days of release and there are just too many bugs to ignore.

    Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me and is a little bummed about returning a phone that has such great potential.

    if there was a phone out comparable id ditch the epic .... evo, been there n done that ... ill hold on untill the next best thing comes out ..buy it full price and sell epic to make up difference

    the evo might more usable now with the latest update to remove the 30fps cap, but remember, the evo finally got all the major bugs out after about 3 months. the epic has only been out about a month.

    it doesn't help i know with the 30-day returned policy. i wish i'm 100% for keeping the epic myself (2 days left). i don't blame anyone for returning theirs as it is hard to justify $250 on contract and $10 extra fee with still the major issues pending (i can live with the manual tweaking of silly running services and airplane mode flip).

    I'm keeping the EPIC - and my upgrade that now reads 8/1/11. 10 more months. :)

    This is a legit question but it's intentions can be questionable. I'll be keeping an eye on this....

    Mine is every 6mths...
    This makes me jus kind of smile :) No mockery to the OP tho...

    If one feels like Froyo will really make or break the phone then to each his own... It doesn't affect me either way so mine is here to stay...

    Returned my Epic a few days ago & am now using the Evo. Honestly, I looked at it as YES the Epic is getting FroYo but the question is WHEN? By the time they upgrade to FroYo, the next OS upgrade should be lined up for Evo & in a year when we can all upgrade to the next latest & greatest android smartphones (dual-core, etc...), they'll have Gingerbread (maybe Honeycomb) by then. So, in a nutshell, I decided to enjoy FroYo NOW instead of later. Also, I RARELY used the slideout KB because I just have a feeling the mechanism might not hold up over time. Another issue I had was when typing in portrait mode, I could feel the top half hit the bottom half (with very little pressure) especially when typing in the upper left area of the screen. Overall, to each his own & the Epic is still the highest spec'd Android phone to date but I just couldn't find a reason for the $50 extra in price.

    I also want to add that the Epic 4G is the FIRST smartphone I did not have a reason nor feel the need to exchange.

    im with you on that, im on the fence as to whether or not im gonna switch out for the evo.

    i love the screen on the epic, and its a nice quick phone and i enjoy it. but its got quite a few bugs (gps being a big one) and im concerned that samsung maybe very slow with updates and/or have poor support and not fix its issues.

    the physical keyboard is nice, but i find myself wondering how well the slider is going to hold up. and i also end up using the onscreen keyboard and swype primarily anyway.

    It's 10 months from NOW. I got the EPIC 4G on 8/31. It looks like - for whatever reason, that the upgrade reset to the 1st.

    I keep going back and forth with whether I have until end of today to decide or if I have until tomorrow. I picked up the phone on the 31st, so does that mean I have until September 30th or September 29th? I guess it all depends if they count August 31st as one day or "August 31st through September 1st" as the first day. I called Radio Shack's corporate number and got a name and number to a rep who said I'd be fine by tomorrow...so I'll just have to reference her if I get any beef in store tomorrow (assuming I return the epic).

    In response to a couple people's comments, Froyo doesn't make it or break it for me, I just really hoping some of the major bug fixes would be addressed within the 30 day trial period so I wouldn't have to "hope" they get fixed after I'm stuck with the phone till my next upgrade...especially considering that Samsung has a real opportunity to fix their poor reputation for sluggish updates and customer service.

    However...as long as I'm talkin' Froyo...The Evo came out 15 days after Froyo was released, and got Froyo just 60 days later. The Epic came out 103 days after Froyo was released so I don't think it's unreasonable to hope that Froyo would have been made available within most people's 30 day trial.

    I'm gonna keep my phone. I'm really liking it. Fryo will be good, but coming from BB world. 2.1 is a huge improvement on RIM.

    And as others have stated, I will be able to get a new phone on 9/1/11.

    Well let's see - they already sent out one update (DI07), and another is set for tomorrow to fix the upload cap. On top of that Froyo/TouchWiz 3.0 should be out soon as well. Not sure where you're getting the idea Samsung has not been working on/sending out updates for this phone. And it hasn't even been a month.

    I don't recall ever saying that Samsung hasn't been working on updates for the phone. My issue(s) are with the updates not making it out within the 30 days of release for people who are concerned with how Samsung has handled phone updates in the past. Like I said in a previous post, Samsung has a real opportunity to change the way a lot of people think about them when it comes to keeping their phones updated. I believe these first 30 days are critical in keeping the customers who read all the warning signs from prior customers and went for the epic anyway.

    Yes, they sent out the DI07 update (which imho didn't address more critical concerns and bugs that had been reported by the majority) and since I felt it wasn't particularly helpful in addressing a lot of the user's concerns with the phone I said, "They really didn't put out any helpful updates during the first 30 days of release..." it was merely an opinion. In fact, I think there have been a lot of people who say the DI07 update actually made things worse for them.

    Samsung can send out updates once a day every day, but if it doesn't address the major issues customers are having, it doesn't really mean a whole lot.

    Its the best smart phone Ive ever had .Been using Palm for 6 years.
    But the 3g speeds made me think a lot about returning it.With upload cap fix coming,Im definitely keeping my Epic.
