Random question but I was thinking about designing a belt clip for the phone, is there anywhere to get 3D CAD files? I have tried looking around the web and have had no luck...

    Should have been more specific:

    something along those lines....

If you're designing a clip, wouldn't you want to create the files yourself? Or are you just looking for standard hardware?

I think he's meaning are there any out there of the GNex itself, so that he can have all the dimensions, etc. to then create around.

I wouldn't be completely surprised since lots of places have 3d imaging machines where you just put something in there it scans it and creates 3D files of it, but yes I am looking for the phone itself. All these companies that design belt clips and accessories for the phone have these files garunteed or they would not be able to design them....I figured maybe someone leaked them out onto the web they probably just got them from Samsung.

I would guess they got the from Samsung and that included a do not distribute clause.

Because there is probably very little demand for them no one has bothered to take the trouble of uploading them.

Shouldn't take to long if you can get hold of a micrometer.

You could try contacting some of the larger case companies, its worth a punt.

I had to model an old Nokia 5300 as part of a cad course I did. It would be quite had to get all the right radius of the curves.

There are loads of cad forums that have thousands of free cad files, you might get lucky.

yea I don't want to take the time to get all the curvature right and I don't have the right tools, I have been searching some of the CAD forums with no luck but if I do find any I will be sure to share for those who may want them.

Yikes, that is nice looking but expensive. I drew one up recently, I'll try to post later today. It's really hard to measure the phone because of all the curves, but I think it is close.

THANKS balders! iges is the file type I am looking for I was working with turbosquid.com trying to get a rendering converted to a solid but they couldn't get it to go through.

T-Keith I think I am going to buy that iges file from the site balders has above I will let you guys know how it imports and if anyone wants a copy pm me.

Try grabcad.com. I know they have Sldprt files of the gsm nexus.

. Sldprt files are easily converted to iges or step. It looks like the grabcad model was created from measurements probably using a pair of calipers. Not measured using a, more accurate, CMM.

... Just checked. They have step and iges. And I forgot to mention that the models are free.

Looks like that one is a GSM model, the usb port and headphone jacks are in the wrong spot.

Here one I threw together. It is an LTE model with extended battery.

Do you think you could post or send me your belt clip part file for the sch-i515. I am a Freshman Engineering student at OSU and i am just learning how to use Autodesk Inventor. I have never done anything this complex. I am wanting to create a standard case for my phone that has personal tweeks and designs. I plan on sharing my case design on this thread in return. I just need a guideline to compare with my own attempts. It would be greatly appreciated your support. Thanks.

Did you ever finish your design? I am thinking about doing a similar project and wanted to see how you made out. Please post

    Hey There,

Do you have that file as a DXF or something that will open in rhino? I contacted LG for the nexus rendering and have not heard back from them.
