3g switching over to 1x and no signal bars

  1. I just got the Motorola Triumph and I'm new to Virgin Mobile. I checked the coverage map on VM's website and it said my area had good coverage. Well I had it activated a few hours ago and it kept switching from 3g to 1x, sometimes no 1x or 3g x_x and no bars and very rarely 1 bar. The customer service rep told me to wait 4 hours before the web would work.

Well now it's been 4 hours and the 3g has been pretty consistent and I'm even at 1-2 bars now. Hopefully what happened earlier isn't the norm for this service and it just needed to be fully activated on the network. Or maybe it was the crazy wind earlier... Can wind disrupt 3g signal? Lol

Ugh.. its now 8:00p.m., an hour later, and its stuck on 1x :c blehh!!!!!

If you have the good coverage then it will work fine after the activation.. which already did Lol. Yeah when you activate it it stays 1x to activate..and on occasion (or maybe most of the time) signal inside a house will usually vary on the location, etc

And welcome to virgin mobile! !!!

I've heard a few people say that even tho it shows low bars they are still able to surf and talk, so there may be a miss calculation with what the reading is on the phone, so your actualy getting a better connection than what is shown.
  4. Thanks =] I got consistent 3g all night and this morning till about 11a.m. It's been off and on. Im guessing I got better 3g at night when most people weren't using it...? But man when that 1x comes on its almost impossible to do anything on the phone =/

Yeah I think so too. So I'm not too worried about the bars, mainly my 3g and the 1x disappearing all together. Or 1x popping up when I'm trying to do something that requires 3g >_< Hopefully it gets better...

In my experience the 3g can be hit or miss depending on your location and coverage (even if the map shows it should be good).

In certain places it will show only 1 bare or less and I have not had an issue with dropping calls. It might have happened to me twice in the last few months, and I had that on previous providers with better networks. The bars for this phone are not really a good indicator or your signal. I usually stick to wifi for data (at least the places I am usually at have it), unless I need it while driving (for my gps) or while out to eat or something, and even then I have a decent chance at a 3g signal.
