Have you ever heard a car sales men tell you that the car you are looking at is a piece of junk? Have you ever heard them say that the competitor is better then your car? Be careful with finance sites, they are trying to sell you something.

In this case they want to sell you the new lte, so they make a graph, complain about what we already know, just to sell you on the fact that lte is faster then the rest.

Which may or may not be true. But just make sure you understand, I can get any finance site to post "facts" about any technology that will try to sell it any which way possible.

I really doubt most people are getting 12mbps with hspa+, I know most people will not get 12 mbps with lte, and most people will not get 10mbps with wimax. Not right now at least.

But for those that are interested in lte vs hspa+, here is a little link. Mobile Broadband Features - Motorola Long Term Evolution Notice the throughput capacity at 5mhz. Wimax is a exactly the same, except at the high ends start to offer a larger amount of throughput.

I get about 3.5M down with 4G on my EVO. Thats about twice what I get with 3G.

Has anyone else noticed their phone getting laggy after turning on 4G? It hasn't always been like this but lately when I turn on 4G, the phone gets laggy and even after I turn it off it's laggy. I usually have to reboot to fix it. Anyone?

funny you say that....i HAVE noticed quite a reduction in response time.
i work in cambridge, ma, and we have pretty decent 4g here. right after i got the phone (last week), i was using the 4g as soon as i got to work because....well hell, im paying for it. but i did notice the lagging, so i really only turn it on now if im going to stream or surf.

Which laggyness are you refereing to?
1 problem i had was when 4G was on the entire unit got super slow. Solved that by hard re-setting and installing my software from scratch.
2nd problem i have now is 3G or 4G or both will get slugginsh in reference to actual DL/UL speed. When 3G is sluggish (tested with FCC Broadband test and SpeedTest.net apps.) the ping times are over 999ms and the DL is around 25-200k. I can switch to 4G and that might fix 3G but at times 4G will be the same.
But no matter what happens by turning on 4G and testing it, then back it will eventually fix both. Sometimes i have to go back and forth 2 or 3 times but no more.

To clarify a tad bit more. Sprints 4G is actually a completely seperate network using WiMax as the source. So technically its not 4G at all due to it not being an upgrade to an existing network. However it is a faster thru put of data speeds and can be considered 4G.
This page will explain a lot of the technical jargon to most people.
3GPP Long Term Evolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The good news is WiMax is covered under the LTE conversion. "Part of the LTE standard is the System Architecture Evolution, a flat IP-based network architecture designed to replace the GPRS Core Network and ensure support for, and mobility between, some legacy or non-3GPP systems, for example GPRS and WiMax respectively"
So that is what allows Sprint to call it a 4G network. :)

Verizon and MetroPCS have launced the begining of LTE which is the first of many upgrades to bring their system to a true LTE system. LTE Advanced will actually be considered 4G. Thats covered here,
"The main advantages with LTE are high throughput, low latency, plug and play, FDD and TDD in the same platform, an improved end-user experience and a simple architecture resulting in low operating costs. LTE will also support seamless passing to cell towers with older network technology such as GSM, cdmaOne, UMTS, and CDMA2000. The next step for LTE evolution is LTE Advanced and is currently being standardized in 3GPP Release 10."

Eventually all the carriers in the US will be on the same page.
Right now its CDMA2000 or GSM / UMTS

I get 3.5-4.5 Mbps down most of the time (3-4 times faster than what I get on 3G) , And I've gone up to 8 Mbps before.

i clocked in at 6.7mbps on 4g here in cambridge (~2.5mbps 3g), so it's def an improvement. ill try it again today and see how the lag is.

Feel free to rip it apart, i am merely getting my information from a Wiki Page dedicated to the info.. So in reality, you need to follow the links and correct their information.
Thats why i posted where i got the info from instead of saying it was mine.

let the ripping begin.. And you have less then 24 hours now.

I've seen this thread almost as much as I've seen threads complaining about Sprint's Premium Data fee.

Welcome to America, the capitalist society. A company can call a service whatever they wish. It's up to the consumer to research it.
