    Is anyone else having 4g problems, particularly in Chicago?

    I never had a problem until today and now my evo is having trouble connecting in places it used to work great in. And when it does connect, it (a) either doesn't work at all (browser, speed test, nothing registers an internet connection) or (b) works for a minute, then (a) happens. I have an allegedly "good" 4g signal too.

    Tried soft reset and battery pulling, hoping that the problem will go away before resorting to a factory reset...

    Yes, noticed that I'm having issues in downtown Chicago as well. Seems to be intermittent - it was working great toward the latter part of the business day, but seems to be down again this morning. I'm used to seeing 3-6mbps on 4G at this location. Was also having some issues with 3G yesterday, today 3G seems to be back to normal. Testing around 700-800kbps on 3G which is about normal for me on Sprint and my Evo 4G.

    Good to know I'm not alone. Keep me updated on what you're seeing Quentin.

    Yeah, I was also having major problems downtown yesterday, but also in Bucktown and Logan Square later on. No problems with 3g with me though.

    Just turned my 4g back on, and still having problems downtown. Instead of connecting and not working though, it's as if the signal is just universally weaker. It'll connect and work, but drops more than usual and then has major problems reconnecting...

    edit: Not connecting anymore, it just sits there trying to obtain an IP address from Sprint.

    Hopefully Sprint is doing some upgrades to the 4G network. My 4G and 3G at my apartment in Lakeview is pitiful - i get 200kbps on 3G, 400kbps on 4G during the peak hours. Ridiculous.

    YES! I am so glad I found this post. I have been trying to "fix" this for a couple of hours now. Bunch of stuff about 4G radio being bad and replace the handset....Blah Blah Blah. I was getting bummed! Glad to hear it seems to be a Sprint issue.

    My 3G works fine. Good strong signal there. Haven't noticed any roaming like shandroid. I thought it was near impossible to roam these days in congested areas like ours.

    Hope they get it fixed soon.

    Too bad I didnt see this post before downgrading to prior versions of the WiMax Radio; Loop Wimax seems to be down pretty much all day...

    I'm in the loop today and connected on the Evo fine outside. 22 stories up in my office, I get nothing.

    However, using my Clear WiMax, I get a fairly strong signal.

    I'm not sure if Sprint and Clear use the exact same signal/towers or if they share different ones or what. But it is annoying that Clear is working well where my Evo isn't (I was hoping to get rid of Clear after getting the Evo).

    Well, looks like it's not just me. Didn't really get any answers from calling Sprint, but maybe someone else will have better luck?

    Anyway, my 4g is still not pulling any data despite being connected. Thankfully 3g still works and I'm definitely not having roaming problems...

    I was having the same problem today (7/27/2010) in both downtown Chicago and Bolingbrook. My Evo shows a "good" connection, but trying to bring up the browser, marketplace, etc either causes a hang, or results an a network error. Hopefully it's better tomorrow or a few days.

    I'm wondering if this is just another Sprint mess up that's going to be a long, hard road. If it is, then I have no problem jumping over to T-Mobile once HSPA+ comes live. The fact that my neighborhood in Lakeview allows for 200kbps 3G and 300-500kbps down on 4G is ridiculous (same problems persist with different Evos). Hopefully Sprint fixes this soon...

    4G seems to be down in my neighborhood in Lakeview as well. Just checked 4G downtown Chicago - still down

    same issues in the NW burbs. started up monday, it worked monday night, nothing at all on tuesday and still nothing this AM. I called sprint tuesday night and they said they were working on the network and it should be up and running today (wed).

    If it's not working when i get home, i'll call again and ask for a credit on my bill.

    I tether quite a bit and without the 4g network, i can't. So we are paying for premium data, but unable to use that premium service. They know there is an issue and they have all our numbers, why couldn't they send a mass text to let us know what's going on?????

    Hope you all get if fixed soon. But 4G is brand new. When we get it running here in Tampa, im sure itll take some time to settle in and get the bugs worked out.

    I'm kinda worried about your phones, guys. I'm connecting to 4G in the Loop just fine. Again, though, signal isn't as strong or fast as my Clear modem. :(

    ok, im still having some issues so im going to just leave my phone off for awhile til it comes back. i too have been roaming something serious and data(unknown speeds) has been lagging. 7 of 8hrs at work im on down/stand by time. so i really need them to get on top of this.

    by the way im located on chicago southside and south burbs.

    I just called Sprint this morning about this. I noticed the same thing yesterday. When in 3G, data works fine. When in 4G/Wifi, I get no data connection. I can verify that this is happening in the South Suburbs (Matteson) as well as the Rosemont, Park Ridge and Hanover Park area. Sprint told me that there were about 4-5 outage calls in the Park Ridge area and a couple out south. I would advise everyone to call in to report/complain. As you know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease...and I need a greasy EVO!!!

    i called the tech line and the answer from them this time was....

    "its in building", ie they are building, working on it, but there is no eta on it being fixed and back to normal.

    i asked if something had broke on it, since it was working perfect at my house from July 1 thru July 25th, but the only thing she knew was "its in building"

    very frustrating.

    i'll call again tonight if it's not working...and complain some more. 4g was the tipping point for me to buy. i need that 4g to make my communication needs fit my budget.

    I just called and rep made me run a bunch of tests and still no go. On my phone all I get is 4G scanning. It doesn't even connect. Currently located in the Chicago downtown area. Same issue when I am home in the SW Suburbs.

    i just called and got the typical run around replies from CS. so i will have to assume somebody broke something or some serious maintenance work is going on throughout the chicago area. which sucks cause i work clean up to sunday and wifi is a no go.

    Weird. Well, it sounds like it happened at around the same time, for most of us in this thread at least, so I'm hoping for the best of the worst and that it's just a network problem.

    So you're able to pull data with your 4G connection? I can connect (seems to spend a bit more time obtaining an IP) but it won't doesn't transfer data.

    that's exactly what i get.

    ther were times on monday where i would have this issue, but the gf's phone would work fine sitting right next to mine. but she is now having the same problem.
