i heard, over on the Nexus forum, that the internal 8 gig storage has nothing to do with installing apps, it's just more like a memory card you can't take out.

you know just some app data and pics/vids and music blah blah blah but not the app itself

anybody care to clear this up for me? cuz i thought the 8 gig storage was for apps

We're not sure at the time but it looks like we won't be able to. However, it leaves for more memory potential than the nexus (especially considering the cost of a 32) and it'll be MUCH faster.

A rom master at XDA will probably come up with an apps2sd option to allocate some of the built-in memory for apps. Too good to pass up an no more microsd issues related to apps2sd. Inc will be the most stable apps2sd device for a while.

There is no 8gb internal storage. It's just a preinstalled sd card.

    Pg 25 of the pdf
    Installing!a!microSD!(8GB!pre"installed)

So it is either poorly written or no internal storage.

I totally agree. It won't store apps, but you will never run out of space for pictures and video! On the Nexus One, you can be in the middle of recording and BAM...you are out of memory.

It's on p25 of the pdf on Phandroid. If the 8gb would be permanent it would state that or state 8gb non-removable. "Installing a microSD (8gb pre-installed)" Just like the Nexus comes with a 4gb sd card preinstalled. Which means it comes with the card in the phone already.

Actually...it has been confirmed - time and time again - by the contributors that were here from day 1 that the device has 8GB of moviNAND on board. They've run device dumps. They've put screenshots of the actual device showing the embedded memory. They've quoted over and over again - those with the devices in their hand - that there is 8GB of moviNAND embedded. I don't understand why the newbies find it so utterly hard to understand and instead choose to argue with those that have been here as every bit of information that is now being "confirmed" first came to light.

It is what the search button is for in the top right of the screen. Search the thread. Read the evergreen thread where every single bit of information that has been confirmed is stored. Either way, try and trust the folks that have been here gathering and confirming the information from the get-go.

Here's the link for the source's original screenshot:

    Here's the picture:

Notice that the "Unmount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" headings are grayed-out. This is because the tester had gathered the screenshot with no SD card installed in the slot. At the same time, notice the "Total Space" and "Available Space" headings at the top, as well as the "Format Phone Storage" heading at the bottom. That is not grayed-out because that memory is embedded on-board.

On pg 1 it says "8GB internal memory" as well as "Up to 16GB of optional microSD support." That sounds to me like the 8GB is permanent. Maybe it comes with an additional 8GB microSD card pre-installed.

OK, so either the PDF is wrong, or there is also an 8gb microsd? The PDF is pretty straight forward. Perhaps one of the sources here should have been proofing their publications ;) Seriously.

So they HAVE allocated app space from the internal (based on the screenshot). Why not present the features correctly then? PDF is apparently wrong and the launch sheet for the product lacks pointing a key feature that would help to differentiate from every other Android product- including EVO, since will have less than 900ish megs free.

Based on the very data that Verizon has provided, you can not blame people for having doubt. Contradictions abound.

i must be looking at the wrong pdf file. on page 25 there is no mention of this. on page 17 there is a reference to a sd card (not included). i would go with the evergreen and dumpscreen shots.

haha, funny. Both book series were INCREDIBLE. (I tried)

But I did see the same post on Phandroid. Definitely a source of some confusion.

Page 25 on the main page link of Phandroid has the info in the PDF and states very specifically that an 8gb microsd is pre-installed. If anyone here should be critical of someone, it should be directed towards Verizon / HTC marketing's inability to put out information that does not contradict.

The devices looked at to date were probably prototypes, so that is not exactly iron clad certainty. Verizon should clarify, rather than contradict the issue.

So far I have not seen an actual Verizon document stating the memory is either a.) non-removable or b.) NOT a pre-installed sd card. The only thing I have seen are stuff posted here but this is not Verizon. I still will most likely get this phone sense I have to change from Tmobile and need occasional remote coverage that Verizon offers.

The most up-to-date thing I have seen is the launch package document. In reference to memory:
    PG 1: "8GB internal memory"
PG 1: "Up to 16GB of optional microSD support"
PG 1: "Undeniable speed: YOU better buckle up. The Droid Incredible uses its 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor and 8GB internal flash memory to provide you with a superfast performance."
    PG 25: "Installing a microSD (8GB pre-installed)"

Does the PG 25 thing mean that there is a 8GB card coming with the phone? If so, why is that text on a page talking about installing the card if it is already installed ... although if you were to replace it, you would have to remove it to put another in.
    OR ...
Is that "8GB pre-installed" referring to the internal memory, basically stating that there is already 8GB "pre-installed" into the phone's internal guts?
It is all in the wording.

    Hence, the inherent contradiction ;)
