I'm curious if there is an app that will not drain my battery that will tell me what is draining my battery? It's weird, I get up at 5:30 AM and I have full battery until around noon. All of a sudden it starts dropping like a rock. So I'm just wondering if something is hitting it at some point. I really only use Touchdown, occasional text, and phone calls. Weather in the background. By 5:30 or so, depending on phone calls, I'm orange.

    Thanks in advance.

Try the battery tips in the top of the forum if you haven't yet.

List the apps you have (other than the built in apps), and others can share their experience with whether they are resource hogs (batter drainers), and/or how to deal with them. I'm not familiar with Touchdown.

I did the battery tip thing for months now. No change no matter what I do.

    Apps:
    ATK
Pandora Radio (only used on power)
    Handcent
    Weather Channel
    Spare Parts
Kaloer Clock (only used on power)
    Touchdown (Activesync push)

    That's pretty much it.

Is there a way to kill it until I need it? What about the built in weather app, drain too?

Weather Channel can be a killer and some people have noticed battery drain with spare parts as well. Depending on which ATK you are using, people have reported a lot of battery drain with Automatic Task Killer. Advance Task Killer can be a drain as well, if you are constantly trying to kill stuff. As far as touchdown goes, you may want to look at K9. I know quite a few people have said it is much better.

    What is your wake percentage?

Yes, check it to kill after using it. I only kill apps when my phone starts to lag. I deleted TWC app and saw a significant difference.

Usually always around 45% or so. I uninstalled ATK a week ago with no change only that I was getting a little more lag, so I installed it again. A lot of people use Weather C it seems with no major complaints. But it's touchdown that has me wondering, it's expensive and not too many people use it. Any way to tell how much power it's using? I'll take a look at K9 docs, see if it will do what I need. I'm from a BB world with a need for constant email access. (4 accounts) Probably the most important thing I do with my phone other than calls.

Just killed it, and a couple of others. I'll monitor it over the next few hours. This is the witching hour for the phone. (No offense OTD) Back in a few.

    Thanks all.

My battery life has improved a lot since doing away with the app. Maybe the software update will make the apps less power hungry

If you want a good way to check the weather, i have a bookmark link to Weather Underground's Iphone optimized page on my home screen. It is a nice interface with all the useful info and radar

I disagree regarding the the Weather Channel widget and Spare Parts comments. I use both, and my battery is currently at 60%, with moderate usage (some texts and web browsing mostly). I have 3G on, and I've also been getting e-mails through the Gmail app too. I have been unplugged for around 8 hours or so. This also includes my alarm going off numerous times, and me hitting the snooze (I just didn't want to wake up this morning!). I unplugged it after the first alarm.

Also, if it makes any difference, I do not use the stock weather app or clock. I use DigiClock - looks much cleaner, and no inaccurate weather/city underneath ;)

Yesterday, after killing TWC, I didn't notice much difference. But then I went to happy hour and my testing went south. It bothers me a little that the battery drains towards the mid day through evening, but I have a second OEM battery that I carry around. And I'm usually not too far from a computer to plug in one of the the multiple USB cords I have from all my BB upgrades. So there is no app to tell me which app is draining my battery? I guess when you think about it, it really doesn't make much sense. I mean how would something like that work anyway?
