A Couple of iPhone & Evo Features I Miss

I used an iPhone for over a year and tried the Evo for about 3 weeks. I've only had the DroidX for a day and a half now but I'm convinced this is the best cell phone I've ever had. I can definitely say I don't miss all the dropped calls I had on the iPhone. I've probably talked on the DroidX for 5 hours the past two days with ZERO dropped calls, not even a bad connection. The call quality and clarity is awesome.

I somewhat miss the simplicity and efficiency of the iPhone UI. Seems like there are often too many "clicks" on the Droid to get to what you normally do. And I think there are a few bugs, while minor, that need to be worked out. I noticed when I pull down the alarms/events from the top, and say it was a missed call and I click on it, it doesn't necessarily take me to that specific missed call, it takes me to the first on the list that I may have checked before.

I miss the dialer on the Evo, where you could start typing in letters to a name and it found the contact. Much quicker than doing a search. Anyone know if there is a dialer app for download that would be the same as the one on the Evo? I think I preferred the 4 hard buttons on the bottom of the DroidX when they were on the touch screen of the Evo. Perhaps I'll get used to the hard buttons, time will tell.

The camera on the DroidX seems to have a few problems, perhaps it's my learning curve, perhaps it needs some fine tuning in the next OS release.

Like the Evo, the screen really sucks in sunlight. I mean it really, really sucks.

Overall, minor issues compared to all the positives. I'm almost to the point, perhaps past it, that even if the iPhone4 was sold by Verizon, I might prefer the DroidX. I am confident that once 2.2 is out, I wouldn't even have to consider that option.

The features I miss from the Evo are: Sense UI, resizing of web pages when zooming in and out, and the loud speaker. I loved the look of Sense. Very pleasing to my eye and the social networking app was wonderful. The one on the X I dont like and dont use.

Could you explain what you mean by this? When I zoom in it works just fine, so maybe I do not understand the complaint.

I did notice that on this phone I need to "double tap" on the screen after I zoom in to re-format the page. I use this when I read forums such as this on the phone.

I missed sense UI too a little at first, then I tried launcher pro and man I was missing out - now I like launcher pro even more than sense.

When I had an Evo and surfed the web, the pages were automatically reformated when I zoomed in, the page with fit the screen meaning no scrolling left to right to see the whole page. I dont get that same experience with the X. I can make zoom in but still need to scroll...

try adding a shortcut to your home screen. as far as the other details youre concerned about, i believe froyo and moto will fix them in the next update.

Hey there... Dialer One is what you are looking for. That gives you the searching capability with the phone pad... I also came from multiple phones that had this feature and I had to have it on the Droid. I installed launcher pro and set the "phone" shortcut to dialer one to bypass the stock dialer. Works like a charm.

I always though that was a great feature, but I like the looks of Motorola's dialer better.

Thanks, I found the dialer one app, actually have both dialers on a home screen.

I also liked the standard calculator on the Evo. It showed the whole calculation on the screen and had the backspace button. Any idea where to find that one?

I evaluated a Pre Plus before my DX and was an iPhone user prior to that, here's what I miss, none of which has made me tempted to return my DX so far:

    Hardware
    - Touchstone Charger (Pre Plus)
    - Docks & Accessories (iPhone)
    - Simpler to use and better quality camera (iPhone 3GS/4)
    - Battery Life, though DX is better than expected (iPhone)

    Software
    - Better calendar with CalDAV support (iPhone)
    - Copy n' Paste, Replace, Spell Check functionality (iPhone)
    - Podcasts in iTunes (iPhone)
    - Homebrew, Preware, Internalz, Patches, Root, etc (Pre Plus)
    - Prettier Folders UI (iPhone)
    - Percentage in the battery status icon (iPhone)
    - Really good notes with sync via IMAP (iPhone)

    Apps
    - Vastly superior Ampache Mobile client (Pre Plus)
    - Better MythTV Remote Apps (iPhone)
    - Wikipanion (iPhone)
    - Sportstacular (iPhone)

    Service
    - Rollover Minutes (iPhone / AT&T)
    - Free 5GB/mo Mobile Hotspot (Pre Plus / VZW)

You are correct that it will not do that automatically. However, after you zoom in on a page if you double tap it will resize. For example, I zoomed in (using pitch to zoom) on a news article on yahoo.com. Once I got the zoom level I wanted I "double tapped" and the article reformatted so I did not have to scroll left to right.
