    Hello thar!

I've been following the Android OS and admiring it for some time lately, but I don't yet own a device. The one I have my eye on later this month is the Dell Streak.

My question for you experts is this...

Is it worth it to use an Android device without any 3g plan at all?

I basically don't care about facebook or twitter in the slightest.
I would just like to use the device as a powerful iPod touch to play videos, music, games, emulators, navigate with one of the offline apps, update my calendars and lists and take pictures / vids on occasion. And when its time to finally crash at the hotel, then get on the wifi and check my email and do my browsing.

So if I were to try and use it this way, would I be missing out on anything important? Do all the major apps require 3g coverage? Can the device even be used without a 3g plan if its sold straight off of dell's website?

    Thanks for your insight.

^^I have no idea what this dude is talking about^^ Edit: Not the OP, some crazy spam post was deleted:)

To answer your question, yes. If you can get your cell carrier to allow it, you will be fine with using WiFi only.

You would lose any form of navigation on the phone and a few other apps that require data on the go, but there is plenty you can do with just a WiFi connection.

I'm on a plan that gives me limited data with my droid and I love it!! I have wifi at home and work and that's pretty much all i use. I use a bit of data here and there but not much.

My plan gives me 50mb of data/month (which if I let it, the droid could use in about 4 minutes) but I have my phone setup so that I don't use more than 10 or so megabytes per month.

The dell streak will be sold unlocked from dell's website, no carrier is involved yet in the transaction other than what AT&T may offer.

I read that there are a few apps out there that cache the maps and allow for complete offline navigation? Is this not true?

(Actually it was on this forum now that I go back and look at the link)
