So we all know about the cap HTC put on the frame rate and supposedly its because of the HDMI out. Thats all well and good, but my concern now is that since most future phones made by HTC (at least the high end ones) will have HDMI out, will all their phones be capped by this limit?

I live in Europe so i wont be getting the EVO, but im waiting for their next big release in Europe and i hope it doesnt have this cap cause that would really put me off.

So do u think HTC will find a way to sort this for their future phones?

My honest opinion, I think the HDMI out may go the way of the dodo bird. I just don't think the value may be worth the headaches.

    Can hope at least. ;-)

You can do more than hope compadre - it's being obsolesced by HDBaseT -

    • Uses RJ-45 - finally - a connector with a positive snap
    • Uses Cat5/6 wiring
    • Support HDMI 1.4 resolutions + networking + (ready for this?) up to 100 Watts of power so that other devices don't need their own power supplies
    • Star - AND - (ready?) Daisy Chain configurations

Buh bye, primitive frequency syncing not always working! Buh bye, heavier more expensive cables that you really can't make yourself! Buh bye, stoopid star-only wiring configurations cluttering up every home theater system in the land! Buh bye, need to upgrade your cables as you bring in newer-revved HD equipment!

    Buh bye, HDMI!

TV business kisses HDMI goodbye | THINQ.co.uk

I was going to post that here, but I didn't think anyone would care.

Anyway - we're stuck with it until the new stuff rolls out end of next year, and then we all own traditional HDMI stuff, so we'll be stuck with its legacy - but finally, finally, finally - someone drove a stake through the heart of this unholy beast.

...I'm not sure you can fit an RJ-45 on a mobile device ;)

Does anyone know if the Droid X folks are seeing the same issues with their HDMI out?

I think they will sort this out and remember this is more of a software cap not hardware, so you will find that Android folks will find a way around or HTC will release a firmware update to resolve such issues. For now i am rooted running a new Kernel with setcpu at 1.1 ghz and seeing around 50fps. If anyone has rooted there phone i suggest doing so if your angry at that 30 fps cap.

To be honest Not really, but again i don't really do anything demanding that needs the higher fps. Is there a 3d game that for example stock Evo is having bad lag that i can test with my phone to see if it is fixed with a higher frames per second. Let me know

You don't notice any improvement on scrolling and from in and out of applications? My whole thing is the touch input lag that is related to the cap.

i hope ur right. Motorola managed to get the Droix X with HDMI out to run at 60 fps so i really dont know why HTC couldnt make it work. Anyway the waiting game continues..

edit: hmm i just read that the cap is hardware related. How is HTC going to release a patch for this?

I am going to say Yes just to not anger the folks in here. Reality we are talking millisecond improvements when it comes to scrolling and opening apps. Maybe in 3d games you will notice a difference. But everyday stuff everything feels normal. I suggest everyone run 2dfps and see what they get. Who knows maybe a lucky few of you were not cap. Would that not be weird. But then again i'm Weird.

The waiting games sounds fun and if anyone is scared to brick there phone i would wait too. I think it wont be long before a fix comes our way. Until then if you want to come over to the dark side XDA is the place to go. Also there are two different types of Displays Novatak and something else which limits the fps some hit 60fps and some hit around 48fps. So just giving you a heads up if you do it your not guaranteed the 60 fps.

You actually can. Instead of a full depth socket, you make a socket with no back; I've seen it done before with both RJ-45's and RJ-11's - the 'socket' is about the same width as a HDMI socket.
