I managed to customize my ringtone by clicking "add" in the right hand corner, but after I downloaded the notification, it won't show up under "notification sounds." Does anyone know how I can add my own notification sound?

I tried plugging the phone into my laptop, but the only things that show up on my desktop were "CDROM" and HTC Sync Manager"

    Does anyone know?

    Thank you in advance,

    Miranda

If you put the ringtone in a folder "media\Ringtones" it should show up for you to choose

After you plug your phone into the laptop you should see a USB symbol in the status bar. Pull down the status bar and tap on USB connected then turn on USB storage. This will create two folders in My Computer or whatever your particular OS calls the area where you can look at files on your computer. I'll have to do a little research on which folder the notification sounds go into but once youe can see the files on your phone and USB card you'll probably figure that out before I do. When you do be sure to post back here. Inquiring minds want to know.

I do not have an HTC phone so I do not know what file app you have installed but it might be "MyFolder" or something like that. If you can't find one then you can download one like Total Commander. Once you are in the folder app you should already have a folder in your root directory called Media (but if you don't then create it. The in the media folder you will probably have to create a folder called Ringtones. Then you will have to find the ringtone file that you downloaded and move it into the Media\ringtones folder

Do you have astro file manager or something similar? The sound you downloaded is in the download folder on your phone. You can copy or move it from there to the both notifications folder. Once the sound is in that folder it will show up for you to add it.

This is the same process for ring tones and alarm sounds as well... You just have to make sure the sound file is in the appropriate folder. It would be nice if the phone have the option to look in the download file for sounds when changing them but it doesn't.
