I have to agree on that one! I had one yesterday that was a Palm Pixie come floating across the screen. Got halfway across and then actually crashed the browser (FF 3.6.8). Never had one actually do that before...

It would be nice if we could be exempt from ads. I'd have to guess you make far more from our $20 then you do off the single ad impression every time we load a page.

You're supposed to have less advertisements, but I'm not a premium so I wouldn't know about that.

You could take this to the Suggestion Box & Feedback. ;)

If I remember correctly when the Premium members were set up, MODs and Guides have all the benefits that a Premium members get. Could you clarify this for me, Frisco?

I'm not Frisco, but I do know that Guides can't access the VIP section. They get 500 private messages instead of 50, bigger avatars and custom titles though. Moderators have a few things different, like the 5000 private messages, VIP access and so on.

I'm not sure about ads though.

Yeah I pretty much figured that out. We have to moderate the contributors too, although I haven't seen so many bots in the VIP section. :D

I post stuff there and act like I'm a VIP. :p

We still get the large splash ads though. I've seen the Captivate one a few times. Had the Duracell one take over my entire screen. And there was one more that I forget, but it was pretty large.

I'd say your suggestion would make sense though about the ads (for premium members, not mods)

Screenshot it and see if we can get Phases to get the ball rolling to get it removed.

it stay there and makes you look at it for 25 seconds with no ability to x out. i can only imagine that this would make potential even current members leave the site out of frustration

There's actually another thread about Ads with the user complaining about the same duracell popup ad and included the pic. I'm thinking it's the same ad bigmerf saw:

What I do, if I see it pop up, is just refresh the page immediately.

You guys needs FireFox - it does the best job at blocking ads.

I use adblocker and an add on called 'noscript'.

I haven't received or seen one ad in forever as I only allow 1 script on this forum (androidforum script).

This is why I like FireFox a lot better than Chrome.

*points* you see that itsy bitsy Ad bar at the top of the site? :p

It's popup that interferes with a member's AF browsing experience. I mean, I'm all about the advert money, but not at the expense of usability like ads that pop up for 10+ seconds, no option to exit. Though it only happened once...when I refreshed...it was there again o_O

Yeah I don't disagree about the pop up ones, they are very annoying, but I think blocking all of them is a bad idea.

    lol

By embedded ads do you mean tracking cookies or ads that aren't 'pop ups' but are actually stuck next to the AF logo?

Are you using noscript? I'm using noscript on firefox (add-on) and I don't see even the ads that aren't pop-ups. Haven't seen any in ages. There are about 6 active scripts on this website and I have all but one necessary script (androidforums.com) blocked.

It's a great way to protect your computer on the internet from malicious attacks and tracking cookies too. Fantastic add on if you are using Firefox and want to up your security - I highly recommend.
