I recently have become attached to widgets. I love battstat and have about 3 different clock installed, i have always used the power control widget. So I was thinking ts time for me to upgrade. I am trying to decide between beautiful widgets, or the weather and control widgets in the market. I hear good things about bw but what are the differences between these two items. It seems to me they offer abot the same thing just comes down to preference. Is this correct? Any help is appreciated.

I downloaded both Beautiful Widgets and Weather & Toggle Widget when I decided to buy one of the two. Played with them both for a day and "returned" Weather & Toggle Widget. I love BW. My only complaint is the lack of weather skins. That said, I love the emotisun one so much, I don't really consider it an issue.

what are the primary differences between the two. I normally do not buy apps, even though they are very cheap, most of the time i just go with the free stuff, but i have too many clock widgets. Also i use the weather channel for weather since the stock weather app isn't that great. How is the weather part of BW, and if i don't want it can i turn it off?

I honestly don't even remember what I liked better about BW, I just know I liked it better. This was months ago. You may not know this, but any app you buy, you have 24 hours to try out and get a refund. You don't get charged until the 24 hours is up. Try them both out and get a refund (just go to the Market, find the app, and it'll give you the option there) for the one you don't like as much.

BW has three clock/weather widgets you can choose from. A full size, similar to the HTC Sense clock/weather widget, a small 4x1 clock/weather widget, and a 4x1 weather widget with the 4 day forecast (this last one is new and I love it).

You can hide the weather icon, but I don't think you can hide the weather completely to make it only a clock. Although that would sort of defeat the widget's purpose anyway.

You can customize what app opens when you click the weather, date, and time. Also, clicking the weather opens up the forecast for the next few days.

thanks for the advice. I downloaded BW today, and so far i am loving it. doesn't do exactly what i wanted to with the weather, but its close enough, and also the 4x1 widgets leaves enough space for me to put the weather channel widget on the same screen if i absolutely wanted to. Thanks for the tips.

You can also take widgets to a whole other level with desktop visualizer.

    Cool, thanks.

Now I'm confused. How does Desktop Visualizer take widgets to another level? I installed it and all I can figure out how to do is customize the icon I want a particular app or action to have.

Also, how do you stretch the size of the icons across the screen? I use LP+ and when I long press and release on the 1x1 icon, it doesn't let me resize like yours are.

definitely going to have to mess around with that. I saw some sweet setups like that in the thread here. Might have to make a scene with that.

You will have to create custom icons for your widgets. The hardest part was getting the dimensions for the widgets correct, here is what i used thanks to the help of someone who came before me (paulmz):

    1x2 is should be 110x260
    2x1 should be 230x125
    Middle should be
    230x260
    4x1 should be
    470 x 125
    (width x height)

    I appreciate the help!

I still do not understand, however, how widgets come into play here. All of the icons on your screen appear to be static icons that, when pressed, open up an app. How does that involve a "widget"?

All of the icons are individual widgets.

In what sense? Do they update/change what they display? What happens if you click one of the icons that's different than if, say, you had the Angry Birds shortcut on your home screen and pressed it to open the app?

BTW - If it comes off as such, I am totally not trying to be a dick. I genuinely am confused and would love to know.

No worries, it's cool. I was sorta confused at first also.

They are static icons the the user can create. It makes it really nice because you can be as create as you can. For example, check this guy's out, he created the top seven icons that look like they are part of the wallpaper.
