Just a heads up - ADW Launcher (in my opinion the best launcher available) is now in the Market (free!). Many bug fixes over the release candidates. Use it, love it, if you haven't tried it, GET IT!

It is a personal preference, but I find it more customizable and it has been smoother and faster on my rooted Droid. It doesn't have the 3d app drawer like launcher pro but has a cool hidden app dock. The author has a site here:

Remember, whichever you use, remove all widgets from unused launchers. I switch launchers using Home Switcher.

Brilliant, I use this too over launcher pro.

shrink57, why does it matter if unused launchers have widgets in (assuming said widgets are killed)?

Many widgets act poorly when they are running in multiple launchers. I find operation much smoother (as have others based on forum comments) when unused launchers are stripped to a bare minimum (especially with widgets that remain active and continue to poll your system). I guess my findings are pretty subjective but it also eliminates a potential cause of problems when troubleshooting (a way of life when ROM hopping).

    Initial thoughts:

    1) Choppier and less smooth than LauncherPro.

    2) I'd like it if they replaced that stupid "secret dock" with more spots on the main dock. I'd way rather be able to put two icons on either side of drawer icon than only have two and then have to contend with that abomination that is the "secret dock".

needs 3d drawer and smoother scrolling with the bouncing turned off.

Tried it out. Not really a fan. Launcher pro is better (for now), imo. This just seems like it needs a little more work.
