ok so ive lost root, how do i get it back?

i have $ not # in command terminal and when using certain commands iget "are you root" in reply

im still using his custom rom though so i dont get how this happened...it just disappeared?

honestly im more concerned about getting it back than what caused it :D

    any help?

You can't loose root unless you flash one of the 2.1 leaks or accept an over the air OTA update from verizon.

All you need to do is re-enter su to get to your super user permissions to do whatever it is you are trying to do with the rom or change on your phone. Do it twice and you will go from $ to #

If you used the leak you are not rooted to begin with. Unless you mean that you used the recovery image amonra with one of the roms made from the leaked versions 1, 2 or 3?

    i got a refurb today.
first thing i dd was root.

and for a whle i did have the # in my command line, after installing grdlocks vanilla ROM it is gone, and certain commands ask if im root. i still have wifi tethering for root, and it still works, and i have the SU permissions app too.

im totally at a loss here.

did you do a wipe factory reset and the davlik cache wipe first. reboot volume up + power and do those wipes again then reflash the rom. And when it reboots go into menu settings>apps>development and turn on debugging.

I believe that su app is just for permission from other apps so they don't go rogue on your phone and do anything harmfull or malicious. Like that whole jail break fiasco with the iphone where a dev made an app that would steal information or display a distastefull message you can't change.

k ill try that again and let you know. i do the wipe everytime i flash a rom though.

it still means that i cant delete unwanted stock apps :/

If you are rooted it is pretty easy to delete unwanted stock apps using adb commands

You may want to go back into the shell too.

    adb shell
    su
    mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
    su
    su

after that last $ hit su and enter it should change to a # sign

My terminal on my actual phone says

    export PATH=/data/local/bin:$path$
    $

then i type su and it says
    #

On your computer you need to be in the tools directory of sdk and typd adb shell that will give you a # and let you know if you're even rooted. If you see a "$" sign type "su" and if no superuser permission app pops up on your phone or if the sign doesnt change from "$" to "#" you are not rooted.

Are you positive you didn't just install one of the leaks or are you actually running a ROM based off of the 2.1 leak?

The only file names I have stored on my pc of 2.1 roms are listed as:
    eris_0_2
    eris_0_3
    eris_LP-0_1
    eris_official_0_5_4

The first 2 were the root versions the third is live wallpapers and the last is a rom of the 2.1 leak.

Do any of those look familiar?

thanks for everyones help though. i appreciate it.

question... while removing apps i saw a few LWP applications,

    se.laetus.lwp.beziers.apk
    LiveWallpapersPicker.apk

so do LWP work on grdlocks vanilla rom?

I believe they do but I honestly can't remember. I have bounced around from so many roms recently that I get them confused

ya mainly im just using his vanilla rom because it has the least amount of bloat and therefore it only makes sense...in my head at least...that it would be the fastest.

im actually going back to using sweeterhome and the theme i stayed up all night last nght editing :)
