I know that this is asked all the time, but I need someone to tell me what they think the best Rom is. But I'm going to make it easy. I only want froyo roms. I've tried both nonsensikal and kaos. I've had problems with both, but I think I had old versions. So I want to know, and I know it's a all a matter of opinion. So no thread fighting, lol. Anyway. Things I'm looking for is the ability to overlook, or one that's already overclocked. And of course everything should work, no lag and stable. Also, the thing I loved most about nonsensikal was the black keyboard, I don't like the white stock one.

If you all could help, that would be great! Thank you all in advance. :)

If those are the only things you need then Froyo roms are just a want. I have done both 2.2 and 2.1. I stick with the 2.1 because they were made to work with 2.1, therefore you dont have the problems that are on the 2.2. Ask yourself why you need to have the froyo rom if you only want overclock and the thing to be trouble free. You will hear all sides no matter if you put 2.2 roms.

I personally dealt with the headaches of the leak 2.1 and had to work and fight with the program. I have since rooted and I don't want headaches and to fight with my phone thats why I run XtrRom 4.2.1 it has some of the look of 2.2, but it is trouble free. If you like working on your phone and flashing the latest version to see if it fixs your problems only to find you have other ones creep up then try the newest kaos v.35-1.

The reason this question gets asked so much is - There is no answer. Every person is differetn. every phone is different. The same ROM will perform differently from one phone to the next. And, each person's preferences of which bugs are negligible will differ.

All you can do is try a few and stick with the one you like.

I vote Kaosfroyo for 2.2, or Evil Eris for 2.1

What is your reason for liking kaos over like nonsensikal or other 2. 2? And the main reason I like froyo is because of the way it looks and functions. I know there is no answer, like I said in the original post. The reason I ask is because I love input, and a lot of times, people will post roms I've never heard of or never tried.

Just to muddy the picture a bit, I had been running Kaos Froyo through various updates for the last four weeks. I've had a few minor headaches with it, but the biggest for me is that the market just doesn't work like it should (and this has been the same for many versions.) First, I rarely get updates that new versions are available for apps, and often get the notification only when I go into the market for other reasons. Second, when I fire off an update, quite often they get stuck. Either they download and never install, or download and install though the market shows the app as still downloading. It's frustrating.

However, last night I had the worst problem - my phone lagged worse than it ever has. I could barely get it to do anything - even long-press on power took a minute to show the power off menu, and quite a long time to reboot after I chose that option. That was the last straw.

I had ran CELB Froyo for a few days, and that was better, though I really prefer the flashing trackball as a notification over the LED, which you have to manually set for CELB on an application by application basis. Also, after fully charging, the green LED would stay lit after disconnecting power, or at least until I had another notification that lit the LED. A minor issue, but one that I could probably live with; otherwise, this ROM is solid.

Last night, after the Kaos lagg-up, I decided to flash Nonsensikal for the first time. I flashed 7.0, as apparently 7.5 has a problem with the camera. Anyway, this ROM is fantastic, IMHO. It's early for me to say that it is better than Kaos, as I won't know for sure until I go for a few days and do not get the lag issue, the market issue, or an issue that is specific to Nonsensikal.

I use xtrsense. has been pain free from the beginning on my phone. the battery tends to last longer on that phone, than when i was using kaosfroyo. i loved the froyo rom, but the battery life was draining....(pun intended)

I stalled on rooting for months because I couldn't make a decision. Last week, after being infuriated by my laggy POS for the zillionth time, I dove in with KaosFroyo 35.1. It's been fantastic.

I can't give you a fair comparison of any two ROMs, but this one is very good. I'm a pretty fussy user and I have no complaints at all.

In my opinion, all of the Froyo ROMs are stable and fast. I really like Nonsensikal, it's fast and the BlackMod version is nice looking. I will never go back to 2.1.

    Hi doogald,

Just curious - was it a Kaos version with a CFS kernel? (I can't check over there at XDA - it's down at the moment).

The only reason I HAVE to use Froyo is for the Voice Actions/Voice Search. It's the killer app for me. Google has done such an awesome job with that. There's no way I could use my phone in my car without it.

I'd be interested in hearing pros/cons of Nonsensikal vs. Kaos. I've been using Kaos for a while and I like it a lot, but have had some connectivity and camera issues.

BeachBum, have you checked out Vlingo from the market? It used to be $10 but once google's Voice Actions came out it dropped to being FREE. I use it pretty often and it does a good job. Not sure if there's anything Voice Actions can do that Vlingo can't but it's something to look into.

sometimes I think the "zero lag" people are either lying through their teeth, or never do much on their phones.

that said, the least-laggy rom I've used is plain xtr with default OCs. I don't need any visual fanciness, all that is accomplished with LPplus and widgetlocker.

Sort of. It was V35.1, which Kaos says uses the CFS kernel with his own optimizations. I believe that Nonsensikal 7.0 is CFS as well, which is why I'm still holding off on saying that it doesn't have that lag problem (which, of course, I experienced with Kaos only once.)

I just flashed Kaos 35.1, but I don't see a whole lot of difference between the one I had and the one I now have. I just downloaded nonsensikal 7.5 and I am going to flash that, but I don't know if I'll like it as much as the old one, or more, or what. But also, over on XDA, punk.kaos wrote a program to dualboot roms, so I may just have to try that. Then I can run both :D That would make me happy. Also, are there any other legit froyo roms besides kaos and nonsensikal? Because I would love to try something that I have yet to mess with. Thanks again everyone!

I have used nonsensikal 7.0 for a couple days and really like it. I have had no issues so far. I flashed 7.5 but the camera is broken in that rom so I went back to 7.0. It seemed a little laggy at first but now it seems very smooth. Before this I was on xtrROM 4.2 and it is great. Just wanted to see what the Froyo fuss was about. I really don't see much of a difference. You get a better Quadrant benchmark score but I really don't notice any performance difference.

I too was on xtrROM w/Launcher Pro and recently flashed Nonsensikal 7.0. Like VanDums I don't see a LOT of difference between the 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs. That's partly because I always use LauncherPro and set up my home screen the same, so that eliminates any visual differences on the home screen. However there are some relatively minor things I like about 2.2 over 2.1 (vibrate only on an alarm, the percentage in the battery icon in the notifications bar - small stuff like that).

The gmail app in 2.2 is improved over 2.1, if you use gmail a lot. You can set apps to automatically update in the market, if you wish, or you can single-click update multiple apps at once, which you cannot do on 2.1. Those are the major differences that I notice.

I'm not a big GMail user. I sit in front of two computers all day every day, which between them have 5 different email addresses - that seems sufficient to me. :)
I had noticed the 'update all' in the market, that's another cool thing I forgot to mention.

Oh, of course another big thing about 2.2 is that you can set Froyo to back up your apps and settings to Google so that they are restored on first login if you ever factory reset/get a new Android phone/etc. You can set Gmail to notify you on every email rather than once until you clear the notification or enter Gmail as well.

Lol, guys! As you might know, in addition to my Eris, I also have a Droid X. We just got the 2.2 OTA update last week and I (finally) rooted my X.

But, what I find funny about this is that I've stayed away from the 2.2/Froyo threads since I haven't played with these ROMs on my Eris. I hadn't really thought about the fact that I have been running Froyo for a week and haven't really noticed too much difference. Just yesterday, I did the multi-update thing (pretty nice) and the lock-screen is a little different.

I guess I have to pay more attention to the Froyo-related threads so I can actually learn stuff too instead of relying on you guys all the time ;).

    Thanks!

Oh yeah, because you hardly know anything at all now... :)
You and EU1 and frightening in your ability to spout esoteric facts about the Eris, ROMs and Android in general. I'm constantly reading your messages and thinking "how does he know all this stuff?!"

Lol, thanks! Count doogald and yourself in that list, too! I like to read the geeky, rooty stuff (especially eu1's pearls o' wisdom). Plus, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night :p.

Actually, I've been busy tweaking-up my checksum/verifier app to include a bunch of suggestions eu1 so kindly gave me. Man, adding the polish and making the UI look nice and clean (and semi-professional) is a real bear. The learning curve is steep but exciting...I'm making progress.

Its all about learnin' stuff, eh? :D

    Cheers!
