Probably a dumb question, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

During the day, I know that there are certain times when I'm in areas with little or no service for an extended period of time, and that tends to kill the battery.

Recently, everytime I've entered this kind of area, I turn airplane mode on for a couple hours, then turn it back off when I know I'll have service again. Uses practically no battery during this time.

Is this fine to be doing? There aren't any repercussions to constantly putting my phone in and out of airplane mode, right? Because it's a lot more convenient than turning it on and off...

    Thanks

That is a good strategy for preserving battery life, and there are little to no downsides to it.

Obviously, since all radios in the device are off, you won't receive any telephone calls or text messages - but since you said the service was poor, you might not receive them anyway.

Short strokes - no downside to it (other than perhaps forgetting to turn Airplane mode off after you leave the poor service area).

That's great news. I did the same thing last night. I needed the phone right when I woke up, but didn't want to deal with any calls or anything through the night, and didn't want to wait for it to turn on in the morning.

Went to bed, it was at 82% battery, woke up and it was at 82% battery.

I shouldn't ever have a battery issue again...anytime I KNOW, regardless of whether I get a call or not, I'll be in an area with little service, or I won't be able to answer the phone, airplane mode will be going on.

That's a really good idea for when I'm at the movies!

I do the same thing when I'm at work (no service there.) I also tried using a locale plug-in to have it automatically enter airplane mode when I get to work, but it didn't work so well with leaving work and turning it back off. Pretty sure GPS turns off with it, so it would never be able to check my location once I left work. Oh well, I guess not EVERYTHING needs to be fully automatic.

Try the app "Timeriffic"! It is fantastic for that! My husband used to get so annoyed because I would forget to turn my ringer on after work, and I'd miss his call. Now I don't have to remember - it's amazing.

I love this phone's power management!! People may complain about short battery life but turning on airplane mode is a true testament to Android's "Sleep" mode. I was out boondocking in the mountains for over 8 hours one day with airplane mode on.. I got on the snowmobile at 85% in the morning and came back off at 85% in the afternoon... so awesome...
