Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 is not available in USA.
I'm stopped waiting for next rumours. I want facts. Correct me if I'm wrong but, surprisingly, for today there is only one smartphone that received official update from Android 1.x to 2.x - Samsung Galaxy/Spica GT-I5700.

Yeah, Canada is not part of the USA, and this phone is not sold there.

this might not apply to us, but who knows.

    Canada = Digital 3rd world
USA = Silver medal in Hockey

    We've all got our burdens...

That's why I was wondering if it was American Companies only, even still, Samsung moment is similarly spec'd. Bell I m sure will want that upgrade as well, as they are heavily promoting it, and android at the moment to differentiate themselves from telus etc. (who have droid.)

And it has same cpu of galaxy spica.

The most similar spec model which is comparable to galaxy are Google branded HTC Magic(i.e Vodafone Htc Magic),My Touch 3g and G1 which they have same cpu and as well as 192 mb ram.

Recently, it came in phandroid that Vodafone HTC Magic will get 2.0 and it's been confirmed by vodafone.
So my assumption is that if one of these devices gets the update,Galaxy also should get it.

By "get it" I'm assuming you mean it's going to get ported to the Galaxy by one of the modders on this forum ;)

I have no doubts that Samsung won't be giving us anymore OS upgrades. Google has just released 2.1 and they've just leaked 1.6 for us. At this rate it'll be Android 3.0 before we're going to get a 2.0 upgrade for our i7500's

I think they "leak" the firmware to let us unofficially beta test the firmware.

if I was a Samsung Engineer, I'd be reading this forum religiously.

Mind you, if I was a Samsung Boss, I would have hired Drakaz...

I beg to differ, if someone kept making the old phones worth using, who'd buy the new ones?

When you're selling them in a market like Canada where there's a Three year contract, keeping that goodwill going over three years, takes some effort. Three years is a long time to smoulder over a shitty phone. If anything, the long-term customer service is MORE important in mobile, than it is in any other type of electronics. If you're laptop is crummy, you buy a new one. If your phone is crummy, you suffer for three years, and then buy a different brand.

I'm in my first week, and I'm not sure if I'd buy another samsung. I'd hate to think of what I'll feel like in 2013 when it's time for me to buy a new phone.

Yes, I've lived in London before, contracts binding you down are annoying, that's why people unlock... or, some would seek ways to prove that the service provider had somehow 'breached' the contract and force them to terminate it on their side.

Please don't start another thread about "Samsung sucks", because there is no update.
There is no phone that received update from Android 1.x to 2.x, except Samsung GT-I5700. There are rumours that somewhere in 2010 HTC will update, Motorola will update, CompanyX will update... But for today ONLY Samsung updated GT-I5700 to 2.1!
So I will wait for official 2.1 on HTC Dream or HTC Magic. When it happen, and Samsung GT-I7500 will be the last phone without 2.1 - I will start blaming Samsung then:)

For now I'm blaming Google for their "Android with Google" licensing. There should be some restriction like: if you selling phone with commercial Google applications (Market, GMail, YouTube) you need update it....

I'm pretty sure any OS engineers they hire they put onto Bada. Also, I'm not so sure that many Samsung Engineers spend their time reading English forums since it isn't their first language, it'd be a slow going process.

Why are phones different from laptops? I mean if you buy a laptop you don't like and then replace why can you not do that with your phone? It's not like phones are more expensive. If you don't like the Galaxy go out and get a Nexus or something else, it'll be what $300-400, no different from the cost of a cheap laptop.

Google often use the Galaxy on their promo shots. eg. http://www.google.com/mobile/shopper/

Nexus, Droid, Galaxy so that makes me feel slightly more confident we'll eventually get 2.1. They can't have one of their "poster boy" phones without the new version.

So Samsung have been very slow with updates, irresponsible by not providing any support or even telling us 1.6 is coming (and leaving us guessing about further updates) but on the flip side they are at least slowly releasing firmware updates. They just need to be more open about things, then I think so much of this bitterness we all feel would be dispelled. I reckon by the time I get rid of this phone it'll be decent...

    This.

If you go and drop 400 quid on a new gadget, be that a laptop or a phone or something else, surely you do a bit a research beforehand to make sure it's what you want? You've got more money to waste than I have if you don't.

The Galaxy isn't without its faults sure, and aftersales support has been dreadful, but it's still a decent phone IMO. I understand the frustrations, I've been frustrated with it at times myself, but I just don't get why there's some much hate out there for it. I love my Galaxy, I wouldn't swap it if I could.

@Cougar, I agree it's a good phone and there's not really anything out there that I desperately wish I had instead. Considering how geeky Android is & the fact the iPhone cost the same (on o2 here in the UK anyway) I doubt there's many people who chose the Galaxy without doing a lot of research; and I imagine if you're on this forum then you almost certainly did. Personally I decided on this phone months before it was released and waited impatiently for it for a long while.

I think however that fact is the reason people are so frustrated. They looked at the specs, the weighed everything up and said "yeah this is the miracle magic phone i've waited for so many years for". And of course it's not only failed to live up to that unreleastic hope; the bugs, Android being less mature than expected and then the woeful support that despite it still being "a good phone" it's just left us feeling somehow cheated. But yeah like you there's still nothing out there that looks much better that i'd swap it for (well not til the next range of HTC phones are released anyway!).

I bought the phone knowing full well what it could and couldn't do, haven't had any problems with it, and am more than happy with it.

Sure there are newer/better Android phones out now, but those phones will be outdated by something else in another 6 months. That's tech for you.

I'm liking the sound of the HTC Desire, but it'll be the end of the year before I upgrade so will see what else is out!

Very nice, but it is only twitter statement.
In the past there was statement that somewhere in 2009 will be Adobe Flash for Android - even for HTC Dream. Couple days ago was announced that Flash will be only for ARMv7 or better, so not for Android first generation phones.
So statements are changing all the time.

Yes, I also believe that HTC somewhere in 2010 will release update to Android 2.1 for HTC Hero and others, but today you have only statements from HTC, Motorola, etc. - not real files that you could download.

Samsung, without much hype, gave us:
    Android 2.1 for GT-I5700
Android 1.6 for GT-I7500 (disappointing but better this than nothing)

PS. Other example about statements: There was statement that Unreal Tournament 3 will be ported to Linux. After almost three years - we, linux gamers, still have only a statement:)
