Hey everyone... Just looking to see if anyone has had success getting root on a cdma desire. My carrier is us cellular and I would love to get all of that pre-installed garbege off my phone. Really want the hot-spot feature too. Anybody out there with one rooted? What did you use? Thanks ALL!!!:cool::cool:

P.S. Saw another post similar to mine in "all things root" wanted some more eyes to see this so thought I would post here. Hope that's ok.

    SO>>>> ANYONE DONE IT YET????

I would like to know the exact same thing. Glad you asked. A bunch of the apps on it are worthless and being able to tether would be nice.

Nope, I'm very new to this. After all we're all in the same boat since Desire has been released for just a month for all of us.

I'm actually more interested in getting Froyo. What puzzles me is that our phones don't have the update section in about phone options. I wonder how USCC plans on updating them if ever.

My goal is to find a way to install official HTC froyo release on my phone.

Hm... I had trouble at first too and it was due to my confusion on when to install/uninstall HTC sync.

if you have it on your computer you must uninstall it prior to running unrevoked, but don't remove the drivers.

What I did was after I installed the unrevoked drivers I installed HTC sync but unrevoked did not find phone. I uninstalled HTC sync, but still had problems, so I went through the steps of installing the unrevoked windows drivers again.
    After that it worked.

Make sure to restart after you uninstall HTC sync and then restart again after you set up unrevoked drivers

Ok so I was on the phone with US Cellular Tech support this morning asking about 2.2 Froyo OTA, and when we could expect it. I was informed that it is in the works and planned upon. They said they hope to have it out before the end of the year. 3 monthes is a long time, but at least we have a tenative date to hope for. He said they want to test it out totally before they launch it, it could be sooner, but barring any problems ,should not be any later.:D:D:D:D

Does anybody know if these rooting instructions apply to a phone that is not active, and that is cdma? I have a cdma us cellular phone, but it has currently no service, and I would like to activate using a non-contract cdma service, llike boost.

Yes, as a general rule, rooting your phone has nothing to do with activation. You should be fine. I've retired my HTC Eris and replaced it right before doing so, but rooted AFTER i switched to a new phone. You should be fine. Hard part is finding ROMS for the Desire USSC (annoying =-\ )

This is an old thread, depending on your hboot version, but this method may no longer work for you. Look at the rooting guide here
