Panel says candidate Paul not board certified

LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) - The national panel that approves doctors as board certified said U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul isn't on the list, even though he's campaigned as holding the endorsement.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that the American Board of Medical Specialities, which works with the American Medical Association, doesn't recognize certification by a group Paul founded in 1991 and heads.

Paul, a Republican from Bowling Green and an ophthalmologist, says he's certified by the National Board of Ophthalmology. But, Lori Boukas, a spokeswoman for the American Board of Medical Specialities, said the organization considers certifications valid only if they are done by the two dozen groups that have its approval and that of the AMA.

Boukas said the group doesn't consider Paul board certified.

Paul, who faces Democrat Jack Conway in the November general election, declined to address the issue to the paper. Paul's campaign did not immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press on Sunday.

Paul is not certified by the board that certifies his specialty. He formed his own board and certified...himself.

He's certified by the state, which is all that matters.

Hey hakr100, you're not certified by my special club to be on the internet, therefore you aren't on the internet with the rest of us.

Seriously, nobody cares about the spin and lies you peddle.

If liberals had talk radio, hakr would be their first radio host.

You boys have me all wrong. I'm in favor of the GOP having as many extremist nutcases in its ranks as it can fit...bring on the Rand Pauls, the Michelle Bachmanns, the Sarah Palins, the Glenn Becks, the Rush Limbaughs, and let them extol the virtues of the oil companies, the health insurance companies, wall street, and of exempting the private sector from civil rights regulations, et cetera. Let's get rid of the minimum wage, OSHA, worker safety regulations, food inspections, the FAA, everything that interferes with the abilities of our masters to make a buck!

apparantly hakr missed the part where rand paul passed all the boards for ABO and was certified under it, only after disagreeing with the policies enacted that were prejudical and favorable for the opthamologists that were grand-fathered in did he form his own board.

its funny that once again someone posts relevent data showing the full scope of the story and not just some spin and his posts prove that if its not something he wants to read he just bypasses it, only thing different about this time is there was no animated gif yawn thrown in.

The point was and remains that Paul is NOT CERTIFIED by the specialty board that certifies doctors with his specialty. Instead, he certified himself, and he claims to be a board-certified specialist. It's a deception on his part.

If you want to dispute the hard fact, go for it. You're entitled to believe Paul's rationale. I don't.

He's already state certified.. and he left the ABO (which he was certified under) due to their corrupt practices.

    Keep the spin going.

I have a different view of Mr. Paul's certification activities. My wife is board-certified, and by the board people expect...not by a board she and her buddies created because they didn't like the rules of the established, national board.

I wouldn't like the board your wife is in, because they grandfather in the 90 year old senile people who don't know what the **** they're doing and don't have to requal test.
