    Hello everyone.

I switch to HTC Incredible from Blackberry that I have been using for years. I like my new phone right from the box. Phone is fast, got bunch of cool apps. One problem, horrible reception and crappy signal strength, very poor 3g coverage. I drive about 36 miles to work one way through suburbs of Chicago and I get same signal everywhere about 1 bar. So I know is not my area and my BB was getting signal just fine before. I have contact Verizon and they were very surprised about my findings. They offer to send new phone since I'm in my 30 days. Also got to HTC and look at all the posts on the htc forum about signal problems. So I did come here and have a question. One of the reps at htc told me that 2.2 will address this issue. I just wonder if any of you had install leak 2.2 on your incredible. Have you seen any signs of improvement on you phone after install? or is this just what they say to people. I have call them again this morning and this time I got a rep at htc that inform me that they are not aware of this problem and he will escalate my ticket. I just want to know what is going on with this problem and if any one here have more info. I will hate to return my phone but this signal problem just may have me do this.:confused:

The number of bars are irrelevant. Are you dropping calls? Any time spent with no signal? Have you checked the dBm level by tapping Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Network?

Yes, it does appear that the Incredible has a hard time representing signal strength accurately in # of bars. The real test will be your dBm level. Check that to see if you are really having signal issues.

I have not drop any calls. few people told me then they call me and i did not have any mist phone calls. phone just did not ring. I never got searching for signal. just eater no bars or one bar on the display. My 3g drops at my house to 1x and then back up. I did *228 and no changes. call Verizon they were checking there setting and everything looks good on there end. Since I been doing reading here is this an display only issue or actual issue with the phone reception? What would be good signal range in dBm level? dose any of you try 2.2 and seen any improvements in signal bars ?????

-100-150 I think is the range where you're getting ready to drop calls. As has been mentioned before, the bars have absolutely nothing to do with signal strength. Monitoring the bars is not really a useful way to guage your signal strength.

-50 dBM is about as perfect a signal you can get (basically standing under a tower), although I have seen my phone dip into -40s in very good areas. When you start getting -100 dBm and above is when things can start getting dicey.

sitting at my desk at work i am currently getting -77db and at home i usually have around -88 to -95.
i have never dropped a call or had troubles with internet access.

the best signal i have ever seen from my phone was -65 and i could see the tower about a block away.

my experience so far has been that my BB curve 8530 had the same signal strength as this phone. sometimes i would see around -103 on my BB in places that i havent seen that high ever on my incredible.

i wouldnt worry about your signal strength until you start seeing problems with it (recieving voicemails randomly after no phone ringing, dropping calls, cant dial out, ect.)
