    I got the epic 4g whic so far is a great phone minus no froyo. I must say in my opinion the iphone is still way ahead of android. I will say though Android is probably as close as anyone is going to come to the iphone. They really need to get some more of the apps mainly the games from the iphone added to android market. The only regrets i have getting the epic is they haven't updated froyo and they have the app for the car dock but no oem car dock to buy anywhere.

    hi,
    interesting post as ive got old iphone 3g and thinking of getting a htc desire - i find iphone might be a bit smoother/slicker in places but android seems more exciting and involving imo

    cheers

    what iphone were you on?

    admittedly the texting ui on android is a bit clunky/cluttered imo - looks a bit wm to me :D

    i know that 2.2 is much quicker/smoother than 2.1 - so that improves the general feel

    cheers

    @dan55

    You should really try the HTC keyboard, which is way better than the iPhone keyboard IMHO, and how is Android like Windows Mobile? Windows Mobile is worst, Android is more polished. =.=

    hi

    oops! soory to offend :) i just ment that the screen where you enter sms text was a bit cluttered and messy compared to iphone - it reminded me of my old htc touch screen

    ive had a go on swype on the galaxy and that looks pretty cool

    cheers

    As has been stated elsewhere, the iPhone is a great phone with a closed architecture. IOS is very tightly controlled by Apple. Aside from a few select areas you tend to be limited in terms of what you can do to alter the user experience.

    With Android, you're now dealing with a more open architecture. If you find you simply don't like SMS on the phone, download Handcent or another paging app from the market. If you simply don't like the options available to you, write your own paging app.

    With Apple you can also write your own app but it needs to meet all of Apples criteria before they'll approve it and allow it into iTunes. With Android you don't typically have that restriction.

    Comparing iPhone to Android is realistically like comparing a horse race to a Nascar race. While it's true that a horse race and a Nascar race are similar (in each you circle around a track), that's pretty much where the similarity ends. One race is more refined than the other but both draw large crowds of fans and both pay well for winning.

    And at the end of the day, Nascar doesn't have to deal with all the horsesh*t. ;)

    I am not proud of this but I use to have an iPhone 3g when it came out. My experience with it was horrible. Constant jailbreak, email problems and worst of all I could not press the buttons on the damn keyboard. But with the HTC Evo I have no problems what so ever plus no restrictions on my phone is something I totally digg. AT&T and Apple seem to be the two companies that invest imo heavily regulated user experience whih is crap. Android phones are only to start getting really popular as their hardware and software gets better.
