Not sure best place to put this question so apologies if people regard this as the wrong place.

I am seriously interested in an android mobile, particularly the HTC Desire or the Legend but I need to answer a major compatibility question first.

I have a Kenwood KCA-BT200 in the car attached to a DNX7220, the KCA-BT200 is a 'badged' Parrot unit but I do not know the Parrot details and ripping the dash apart to get it out for dismantling is not high on my to do list. We also have a 2009 Passat with integrated phone so it needs to work with that too, VW won't commit they say the phones are too new (VW's list of compatible phones is more like an antiques listing). All VW will say is that if it supports SAP (Sim Access Profile) and A2DP it will be OK. In the HTC specs there is no mention of SAP.

Kenwoods compatibility list doesn't show either of the HTC's but then it doesn't list my Sony Ericsson C905 either and that works fine. I tried Parrot and they said speak to Kenwood, I have spoken with Kenwood and all that they will say is that an updated 'compatibility list' is due but they won't commit to when or even offer any clue what is on it.

I am not prepared to replace over a grands worth of hardware in my car just for a phone, nor do I want to spend

There are a lot of problems with Google's Bluetooth implementation.

I have a G2 running 1.6, My '08 BMW does not even find it.

Go here for a list of many other cars with car kit handsfree problems:

Issue 3960 - android - Bluetooth issues with car systems in Android 1.5 / 1.6 - Project Hosting on Google Code

You have 30 days to try it and return it if it doesn't work. Alternately I should think some hungry salesman would go out to the parking lot and see if his phone will pair with your setup.

2.1 which both the desire and legend run solve most if not all of these problems.

You would think that they would help test before I buy, so far I haven't met any one in sales hungry enough I guess.

Reading some posts at the link I previously provided it looks like some with later versions of Android still have problems, but I would like to give it a try.

If I root my G1, is there a decent 2.1 version that will work on it that I can install?

As for not finding a salesman hungry enough, have you tried both corporate and non-corporate stores. it might help if you can find one in a strip mall so you can park right near the store and go on a sunny day, so the salesman doesn't have to walk that far or melt in the rain.

I am also finding some reports that there are still issues even with 2.1, what isn't clear is whether those problems are self inflicted but many seem related to Google / Facebook synch breaking the bluetooth synch.

I guess the only way is to find somebody prepared to test, or buy one, test, and then hit E-Bay with it should it fail to reach the targets needed.

Has anyone got an EVO 4G to pair with a BMW?

I have the $30/month SERO plan and am reluctant to give it up if I cannot pair it to mine (2008).

    Hi,

I thought I'd chip in as I have the HTC Desire and the KCA-BT200.

Basically, it doesn't work as the phone won't even pair with the KCA-BT200 even though it can see it as an available device to connect to.

I've tried with Android 2.1 and 2.2 and the same thing happens unfortunately.

Most annoying as I spent a day last summer with my car dash in bits fitting the kit! :-(

rSAP profile in Bluetooth is a must, cant understand why no one has been able to solve this issue. I would certainly be willing to pay for an app/mod to get my htc desire froyo working with my vw car kit.
