    Surely this leads to artificially inflated stats regarding iPhone use..

    The browser is based on the WebKit engine.

    Which Apple stole from KHTML project. So why is my Android reporting it being made my the most evil corporation on the planet (aside Microsoft)?

    Relax. Metrics companies know how to tell browsers apart, or haven't you ever noticed how the user agent string for Internet Explorer starts with "Mozilla" which used to mean it was a Netscape browser before Microsoft started hijacking that way back when.
