Hi there everyone, i would really appreciate some experienced knowledge as i have none when it comes to Android Tabs...! I am looking to buy my twins an Android Tablet each for Christmas. They start school next year so they are nearly four years old... I need something with lots of educational apps, it needs to be quick as i dont want them to get bored too quickly..the latest OS, and with excellent wifi to use the internet... ive had a look at a few on amazon which look great but i really could do with an experts opinion...Im looking to spend about

It has Wifi but no cellular so you can access internet via WiFi if you have it at home.

    WOW! Tablets for 4-year olds?!?!?

Ummm... I guess they also have to be small enough to be handled by their small hands and light-weight enough not to weigh them down?

This forum did an article on some small tablets being marketed for women (no offense to women, but they generally have small hands)

Or you can try the TINY but PSP-looking Arcos Five

Since it's for kids, I'd recommend the Harris RF-3590, which, except for the glass, it VERY difficult to break

    Did that help?

Neiski not with a 4 year old, if your child was a few years older I would recommend an adult one that you could set up but 4 year olds as you know are wrecking machines... don't think the screen on a fire or nexus 7 would stand up to getting dropped or anything.

What I would do in your position is buy a cheapo tablet and get a case and screen protector on it and download a parental control app... then buy yourself a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD :D

Nexus 7 is the best bet for what you are looking for

Just wondering what your reasoning behind that was

How child/honey/drop/chocolate/mouth proof is it? That would be my concern.

Last year for Christmas we got my 4 year old a Kiddiezoom digital camera. Technically it wasn't at the top of the tree by any means, but it took quite good 2MP pictures, and was very robust. She's taken quite a few decent photos, plus some that are 'interesting' because of the way she see's the world... plus a bunch that are just 'strange', So i'd recommend one of those as a gift.. It also taught her that she needs to look after a gadget etc...

And she's grown (in age, responsibility and ability) to the stage where my wife lets her play with her samsung android without batting an eyelid, and i'll let her play with mine without getting too nervous (as long as i'm there).

The tablet you mentioned looks like the sort of thing i'm looking at, althought its probably not going to happen this year as she has lots of other stuff on her list.. but she does have a birthday next year, and its not long before mine so it may end up as a 'shared gift'

The Nabi looks like a nice bit of kit although is a bit more than i want to spend... but if it comes down in price it may be a real option.

Also consider the Blackberry Playbook.. I know its not android, but a lot of the apps are available on it, and its very nicely built and on sale through curries and pc-world at the moment. My Father has one and i'm really impressed with it.

Anyway, if you do go for it, then let us know how you get on with it, as we'd really like to know...

Dont buy the Momo8. Its rubbish. I sent mine back and got a galaxy tab.

what was wrong with it? there's quite a price difference between the Momo8 and the Tab, so i wouldn't expect it to be as good, but what 'showstoppers' did you find?
