Hi, I have had one of those "Starting download" errors in the market for almost 3 months now (!) and I'm starting to get tired of it.

I'm using a Desire with android 2.2. My problem is this: I can download from satellite network, but not via Wifi at home. However, it seems to be a 1% chance (or close to that) of successful download using the Wifi.

I have logged in and out of Talk several times, did a couple of factory resets, formatted the SD card, cleared cache from HTC checkin service, market, google talk and downloader (if thats what its called in english). I tried to set the network as only WCDMA, only GSM and both auto, still no results. Everything else seems to work using the Wifi at home, except market. I called HTC for some help, and the only thing I got to know was that it wasn't my mobile operator, or other settings on my phone that caused this problem, and they also thougt it might be the network at home, which I too thought before talking to them. So I did a little research about that, and tried to open port 5228, even though that seemed weird, as it sometimes worked downloading. I also read about the change from googlemail.com to gmail.com, but I never had a "googlemail.com" address, so I hope this isnt the problem. Now HTC wants me to tell them if I can fix this, and how I did, so they probably have no clue either:S

I have also tried other things, which I don't remember right now, but if anyone can list up something to try, I'll see if I have done it or not. Thanks :)

I have also tried other wifi networks, and I have no problem downloading from them. But I changed network this spring, so now I have a wireless broadband. Does anybody know if this is the problem, and what I can do to fix it? It has worked downloading after I got this network, but its also possible that this problem started after I upgraded it to Froyo...

Same problem here - HTC desire, froyo, in South Africa. My first Android experience, pretty disappointing! Please update if you solve it, I will try too. Anyone else???

I doubt that's the problem - doesn't Froyo on Desire have 802.11n? Also, things like the Browser, Twitter etc work fine over wifi under the exact same conditions....

Confirmed: I changed my router to use only b and g modes, and still no Google Talk signin, or Market apps downloading....

I also enabled port 5228 specifically (although this shouldn't be needed on wifi) and still no joy...

Not sure if this is going to help anyone, but just sharing my experience.

Both me, and my collegue could not download from the market.

We realised we'd both used the work 'guest wifi'. It's an open network but one which directs you to a page where you enter a username and password.

To fix the problem, I cleared the cache from the Market in 'Manage applications', and rebooted. The first time it did not fix problm. The second time I tried, I remved the battery and SD card, then reinserted and rebooted.

This fixed the problem for me. Not sure yet if it worked for my collegue.

Hmm, it was set to b, g and n mixed, tried to set it to only b and g mixed but nothing happened. The router is a D-link DIR-635

Yup - tried many things: factory reset, clearing of caches, battery pulls, changing password on gmail, changing timezone, changing language, disable firewall on router, run without sd card.... anyone else got any ideas to help me and Baard?

The problems seems to be pretty widespread but random - affects different devices, different OS versions, different countries and carriers - almost feels like it is a problem on the Google side with our accounts, although it affects both Google Apps users and those with a std Google account
