I'm currently using an anti-virus app.It has over 800 viruses listed in its database, none have been detected to be contained in anything I've opened/downloaded,etc.,so I'm just assuming that it is working(over 100,000 scans,& counting),no problem there.
My question being; is there an anti-virus app that works well w/o hindering performance,or is that just a trade-off to be expected?(I can tell when it is running in the background,my phones overall performance slows down, & right after the notification appears, everything runs as it should).

Its a trade off. Every single antivirus app hinders performance. Lookout is the best, it is made by respected developers and is a high quality app. If you have Lookout, go to setting and tweak the virus scanning settings so the app doesnt check for viruses everytime you install an app.Choose instead to do a scan at a time were your sleeping for example. That will help out a little

Thanks Joser. I'm gonna DL it and give it a try tonight. Antivirus was the next thing I wanted to tackle so this thread comes at a good time.

Anyone have an opinion as to how dangerous it is out there in App land?

    Thanks.

Cricket technician informed me that their carrier service has a built in Anti-virus. Don't know about MetroPCS but it's worth calling your provider to find out.

The thing I don't like about anti-apps is how invasive they are. I can't imagine one not slowing down your performance.

Also...I wonder if they leave 'traces' like they do on your PCs when you uninstall them.

I'll be anxious to read the responses.

How important do you think it is if your carrier also provides it? Does it slow you down any?

Course you have a lot more powerful droid! LOL

Also...have you ever caught a virus? I've been getting spam lately. Annoying as all get out!

PS...Just noticed you have the Sanyo Zio too. Did you get the upgrade yet?

Jazziette, I am positive that the question you asked the technicians was anwered wrong. If that was true, then how come other better carriers dont stress that out. Some even encourage antivirus programs. Even Google endorces Lookout:)

I figure you are about right with regard to it being 100X safer then a PC.

I think my concern comes from allowing install of non-market apps under application settings.

Again, I will checkout Lookout tonight. That's if the kiddies give me time. :)

My Mom tells me "it can't hurt to ask", so I will. Trying to get to a real live Metro Rep is like pulling teeth tho.

Agree with the traces part. They all leave dingle berries on my PC.

    Can I say dingle berries?

It's the same with Cricket. You have to hold forever!! Why wouldn't you be able to say dingle berries? Is it an illegal app? I've never heard of it. What does it do?

Out of market apps was my main concern/reason for running an anti-viral app as well.

Viruses exist inside the Market as well but not as often. Sidenote: Theres a theory that antivirus companies themselves create viruses to sell their software.

I got lookout tonight. Nothing found on scan. Set it for daily scan at 2AM. I feel safer already with that little thing in the notification bar. :D

Let see if it slows me down any over the next few days.

    Thanks.
