I have installed antivirus free app on my desire. It is not doing any harm and seems to scan all files and applications I download. I have had it installed for about a month. No reason to remove it so I will leave it on.

    +1

Scans apps, backs up phone logs/contacts/pics, as well as having a locator and locator SCREAM function. Not really a scream on the Cappy, though :)

Been using it for a few months, first with the Backflip...

I'm wondering how people can say that it "works great".

What malicious files/viruses/trojans/etc are actually out there for Android?
What ones of these have people actually gotten?
Of these, what ones has the antivirus software actually removed?

On a somewhat similar note - are there any (or use) for a "defrag" app?

You definitely do not want to defragment flash storage. Flash memory has a limited number of write cycles and defragmenting would substantially eat away at them. For the same reason you should never defragment an SSD on a PC.
