Just wondering if anybody else is onboard with me with this Droid X as the final deal breaker?

I've owned every android phone Verizon has ever release. I am not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing. But none the less I always end up going back to blackberry. Original Moto Droid I liked, but I never used the bulky keyboard and eventually got rid of it. The droid incredible was the longest lasting one I had for about 2.5 weeks. The deal breaker for that was the battery (i'm talking less than 40% at lunch on minimal usage, with connections off besides network), outside display, and non video light for camera, I figured even when froyo 2.2 fixes the video light, there goes my battery drain even faster, so that phone was sold as well. So here I am back on my Blackberry Bold 9650 awaiting another droid release but this one seems like's it perfected everything that I previously hated about droid.

Just wondering if there's any other crackberry-a-holics out there that are die hard fans but are techy people. The new Blackberry Bold does everything it should do and nothing more. It's a solid device, outdated specs compared to the droids, but is a solid reliable phone with a battery that lasts a few days with heavy use. But VERY BORING, extremely boring not to mention the browser is so so slow. Blackberry is light years behind droids yet why is it so hard to make the switch? I can't pin point what it is I love about blackberry, perhaps the simplicity of it but Droid and Apple are in a whole other ball park.

I'm hoping this droid x will be the phone that actually keeps me with the droid market because i'm a huge fan of the android OS its just the hardware issues on the phones that are keeping me from converting. 720 Video recording, good battery, a cell phone as a router?!?, HD connection, huge display, video light (coming soon), bigger keyboard for easier typing... the list could go on and on how this phone towers over it's competition....

Former Blackberry Addicts chime in :D

My work phone is an 8530. Ugh, worst phone ever. BB OS sucks so much.

    I wouldn't say "addict"...maybe "survivor" is more appropriate. I have a Storm.

I salute you sir for staying with the Storm for so long. I had it and it was a nightmare. The Storm will go down as the absolute worst Blackberry phone, in my opinion.

I have a Storm 2 and it is light years better than the first iteration.

Anyway, I will have my feet in both camps. I can't trade in my blackberry because I am the BES admin for my company and I need it for troubleshooting. Also work pays for my BB so I will be keeping it for when I am on call as well as for email capability when I am out of the office.

That said, I will be getting the X as my personal device. RIM does a fantastic job in the business world but I'm tired of my S2 as a dual purpose work/personal device.

    +1.

ditching my pearl flip for the X...completely opposite end of the spectrum.

i actually like the flip pretty well for the form factor. never had any issues w/performance either. on a corporate BES server it is absolutely reliable...no battery pulls.

that said, it is sloooowwwww and the screen size makes web use virtually impossible.

My two biggest issues with the Storm:
    1) Pitiful amount of memory...boots up with less than 30MB available...and I have very few apps loaded.
    2) OS "updates" suck. They fix a couple minor issues, leave a couple big issues, and break a few new things each time.

I'm using a Storm 1 since December 08. And this thing sucks. I had a Droid Incredible and returned it when I learned about the X. I miss Android sooooo much.

I'll never ever purchase or use a BlackBerry again. Why anybody would use one of these things if they were not forced to due to work is beyond me. Luckily I'm in a position at work where I've said I'm using Android from now on and the tech people must make it work for me.

I'm also a survivor, but luckily my 8330 is dying as we speak. Droid coming in today, as the charger connection broke so the phone can no longer be used.

My divorce should be final in two weeks. I have owned four blackberry products over the last five years and have finally reached my limit. Yes, there are certain things I will miss......but I won't miss feeling 5 years behind the rest of the pack. Earlier today I used google maps on my storm 2 and it took 4 minutes, yes I said minutes, to load a map.

RIM is dying. Their slow development has lost me and I'm certain many others to more aggressive development platforms. The droid x is the device I've been waiting for.

I am planning on going with Droid X also. There are things I like about my BB and I hope I won't miss those things. It's just that I want options my BB can't give me.For me work related emails and word docs. are major and this has worked out great on my BB.We shall see. Hmmm yesterday my BB wouldn't let me post here, but today I can. Strange?

Ill be switching from a storm that ive been using since December of 08....thank god! cannot wait for these next to weeks to go by. Darn phone boots up with <30mb of mem and i have about 3 apps loaded. Not to mention the browser is slower than anything.

Also to the original post... how can you mention hardware issues and not have problems with blackberrys... ive yet to see one model from RIM put out that does not have wide spread dust under the screen issues and serious other problems. Storms for example the buttons falling off. My gf has gone threw numerous curves because the cam just craps out on her... blackberrys quality is anything but great and Blackberry 0S... forget about it. 6.0 doesnt even look up to current OS's out there now... its just the same stupid OS made to be a little flashier.

Any company that thinks the Storm 1 is a viable option in the smartphone industry obviously doesn't know the market.

8gb of internal memory or 30mb.Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have been a Blackberry user for nearly 5 years and I am so ready to ditch the Storm 2 for Droid X. Except for phone signal quality and push email, there is nothing else enticing or exciting about the Storm 2 or BB's in general. The native browser takes forever to load. So does FB and Google maps. Can't wait until July 15th gets here!

I'm on my second and last BB. It was a good ride, but RIM is so far behind in the non-business world it's not funny. Very conveniently, my Tour will be one year old on 7/13, making me eligible (I'm pretty sure) for a new phone at the subsidized price (with two-year extension). I'll be at the VZW store when they open the 15th.

I've also got a Storm 1. Had the same one for 2 years remarkably.
I'm so tired of it and I'm chomping at the bit for the Droid X.

    TG

Blackberry Curve. Charging port broke after a few months. upgraded to the tour. Charging port became loose. Trackball stopped working. O.S. .591 was a disaster. O.S. .732 also with lots of issues. Poor battery life. signal issues.

Tour was replaced with a bold recently under warranty (verizon had no tours in stock. oh darn. they gave me a new 9650 instead)

Bold is going up for sale when my Droid X arrives.

Bye Bye RIM and your crappy O.S. and crappier O.S. updates.

I am on my 3rd BB in the last 5 years, I have no complaints, currently have a 8310 and my only complaint is AT&T, not the device. I really want to get a Dell Streak, but if AT&T doesn't start moving, the Droid X is a contentor, although I have been on T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T (Cingular) my whole life, I was really hoping to wait changing carriers until after we moved back to Florida. Regardless of whether you love them or hate them, a carrier is like real estate, it is all about location, location, location :D

I'm a Storm 2 user as well. I got the Droid when it came out but I hated the texting on it and as petty as it sounds I hated that you couldn't really customize the led light on it like you can with Berrybuzz on a BB...they DEFINITELY need an app for that, I loved knowing who texted me by how it lit up and what color.
HOWEVER...the last 6 months or so I'm absolutely fed up with the constant blackberry OS glitches and the total sh*t browser.
I truly believe the DX fixes all the things I didn't like about the Droid (texting, worthless slide out keyboard, mega processor/battery life) so I'm stoked as hell to hop back on the Android train.

I'm definitely no addict, i actually hated both BB models I had and all 7 of the stupid Storms and Tours I went through because of manufacturer hardware issues. I'm getting the X the day it comes out and I'll never look back.
