Might want to post this in the "apps" section. What network are you on? I know you can get skype on 3, if you are in the UK.

I use 'Nimbuzz' which the last time i used it, did support skype. Check it out, its pretty good and supports the normal, msn, aim, etc etc

I'm also using Nimbuzz which seems to be working pretty well. Skype IM element works really well, voice is ok but a little echoey for the person at the other end.

What's wrong with Fring? I've got it on my phone, but not used it yet.

Theyve removed skype support for the time being, some rubbish about server load. Supposedly its coming back at some point but it does kinda feel like they crapped all over the android community. Its a free app so I guess I can't complain that much but its still annoying.

The reasons are unclear. One claim is that Skype was threatening fring with legal action.

    Fring are really pissed off!

I was having a number of email conversations with them yesterday. It was because Fring got video calling out before them.

No Skype = No Fring for me, pointless. I'll uninstall then.

Not "free" - you are still calling a local number, so it is using up airtiime. It doesn't seem to use the Internet to place calls.

Check out Nimbuzz as others suggested. It works.

I deleted nimbuzz. It's more unstable than fring.

How come Debs can make free voip and the skype app in this thread comes out of your minutes?

Cause it's Skype lite. That's just the functionality of it. I'm guessing it was based on trying to gimp the service so that carriers wouldn't freak out about people choosing to use Skype over normal calls (and thus, lose money). All speculation, of course.

I'm not saying it's not possible. I'm just thinking that Skype bends to the will of the carriers who want people to use their minutes vs their data plan. :)
